The community Rep said 4PM PST on the 25. The official post reads 0400 PDT. I take that to mean 4AM on Fri. 7AM EDT. correct me if I am wrong.
They are having the servers shut down to conserve energy because of the power plant situation. It hasn't been safe to work on too much energy with the power plants' current state. Gaming is kind of low on priorities, in my honest opinion, especially with an unpredictable nuclear reactor thrown in the ring. But now, since the reactors have been cooled down and the situation has become a bit safer, they can give us an estimated date of when we can expect servers to be safely running again.
Point: Games aren't so important, and we can live without one (well, two I guess) certain game(s) for a few days while Japan tries to get the situation under control and taken care of. I think turning off the game servers to help prevent working the nuclear plants too hard is more important than taking a risk by keeping them on. I'm sure others agree with me.
But in any case, the game is coming back, so everyone can say hooray and be happy again.
I've already posted it before but I would like to say that Japan, you're continuously in my thoughts and prayers. Even though I'm far away (I'm American), I'm deeply saddened by the disaster that happened. My condolences goes out to the families that have lost loved ones and friends.
And Square Enix:
I completely understand the servers being shut down. It was the right and respectable thing to do.
Thank you for your sacrifices so that we can play the game sooner. But if things worsen or anything and we need to wait longer or if they need to be shut down again, I understand and it's ok with me. Just wanted you to know that.
Yes, I believe you are right. 11AM GMT is the same thing as 4AM PST and 7AM EST. If the servers were to resume back online at 4PM PST and 7PM EST then this would mean 11PM GMT according to my knowledge. I'm on the east coast so I am GMT-5 or five hours behind GMT. But since daylight saving time just occurred here and not in Europe just quite yet, that puts me 4 hours behind GMT instead of 5 because we just set the clock forward (7AM EST + 4 = 11AM GMT). This makes their original post of servers going back online at 11AM GMT/4AM PST/7AM EST sound more likely. There is an error somewhere in there where the Rep posted about the times.
I love how these so-called "compassionate" people can come on here and talk about how much their heart aches for the people of Japan, then completely thrash anyone who even suggests that although this was a terrible tragedy, it's a good idea for SE to resume normal business, as though we ourselves went scuba diving off the Sendai coast and falcon punched the faultline.
What was it that one guy most of you probably worship said in that one book you probably never read? Something about reserving judgement lest ye be judged?
I've seen very few people completely thrash anyone who makes such a suggestion. I have however, seen quite a bit of thrashing in the opposite direction. Which makes your last statement a bit obsolete.I love how these so-called "compassionate" people can come on here and talk about how much their heart aches for the people of Japan, then completely thrash anyone who even suggests that although this was a terrible tragedy, it's a good idea for SE to resume normal business, as though we ourselves went scuba diving off the Sendai coast and falcon punched the faultline.

Funny, because I have been called heartless, selfish, insensitive, disrespectful, and many different swear words. I have at times defended myself against these attacks, but the entire time any negativity from me was directed solely at Square-Enix. My opinion is they are taking advantage of the situation in order to save a couple bucks, since FFXIV is costing them boatloads of money to run right now with zero subscription revenue coming in.
Disagree with me if you want, but don't attack me for having an unpopular opinion and expect me to not defend myself.

The point to all of you is that feeling 'sad' is nice, and 'grieving' is nice, but it doesn't help anything. It's just you making yourself feel better by allowing yourself to feel sad about it. It doesn't put clean water in babies' tummies, or bandaids on old people's noggins.
If you want to 'grieve' or 'show sympathy,' maybe be okay with the little inconvenience of not having your game online as long as they need it to stay that way. Maybe come out of your pocket a measly ten bucks to the red cross. Nobody needs your grief; they need your help. Grow up and give some.
PS @SheBitez -- I'll "goe therrrrrrre" any time I please, thanks.
