Yes. This has a lot to do with it. Not only that but people have their status taken away from them for losses, which will be a sore spot for many. The ranking rewards are set up in such a way to drive competitive people to have to win repeatedly if they even want a chance at these (developer-imposed) limited items, as well as the "bragging rights" that come from it, like, oh I don't know, "I'm gold and you're not," which is hilarious because Feast ranking is less skill and more luck (hey! like primal mounts and minions!) and many players identify this and are upset that their personal standing is dictated by the varying degrees of competence in their teammates that RNGesus deals them. This is clearly an issue with NA players, though I am curious to see if it's "working as intended" with the JP playerbase because their values (and DF use) are noticeably different.

Japanese players were more competitive than the north american ,and the Eu crowd in ffxi so its hard to say. Maybe this competitive should have been set up with 2v2 3v3 4v4 build-your-owns so you don't randomly get a lemon in terms or skill , or attitude. People would be complaining about the lack of players then instead of how toxic it is. Most people haven't been able to accept that people are mean ,and for most mean people nothing will ever change them.

Ran a google translate on the JP section of the forums for giggles. Their PvP section is just about as salty as ours is, from what I can tell.

I'm not gonna lie, I've got really salty after some matchs but I'm never going to tell people to uninstall the game and stuff like that lol. Just accept the fact that the other team was better than yours and move on.

    >Toxic Environment

Even before Frontline was introduced, PvP was toxic. Secure and Slaughter were filled with a lot of hate at times. Hell, even before we even had a designated name for our new PvP mode, it was bad. You shouldn't really be too terribly surprised though.

This happens in any game with a competitive atmosphere. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you can also see the same toxic environment in raid parties for Savage content. Friendships are often torn apart, FC mates split ways, words are exchanged, etc.

This is nothing new to FFXIV.

And to be fair, "smashed assholes" could also be an objective observation in some games and therefore not reportable.

Oh, I'm all for people actually getting better. I'm just getting sick of running into unranked/new/etc. players on my team and them learning at my expense. I lost a gold qualifier round earlier tonight because I kept getting new guys (I mean fresh off the boat). I knew I was in for a bad time when I saw those achievements popping up and I recognized the two top 5 and top 20 players on the opposing team, heh.

If these guys would actually go practice in unranked matches to get a feel for The Feast first, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but when I'm failing my qualifying round because you're a new healer and you die in the first 10 seconds, then we lose both DPS, don't be surprised if I'm salty, lol. Fortunately... I built my points back up and got the qualifier again, but they tried to screw me out of it a second time. I lost my first two matches because of a new healer and new DPS (again), but I pulled a miracle out of my ass and won the next three matches in a row because I actually got silver teammates and such, so I finally reached gold.

I didn't have time to mention it the other day, but thanks for sticking up for me, Knives. I appreciated it a lot! Usually if one person blames the healer, the rest will just pile it on. Definitely can be rough being a healer in The Feast at times.

As for why the BRD snapped at me... as we were retreating to our base to run the clock out near the end, the enemy WAR (actually the OP's WAR!) Holmgang'd me as his team's DPS ran ahead and unloaded on our team's tank (holding the most medals for our team). My Purify wasn't up to remove it -- our tank died while I was unable to get in range in time to save him, and that was the game. It was a great play by our oppponent, but the very moment our tank hit the floor, out came the daggers!

From a healer's perspective: I think a lot of players have no idea of the circumstances for why deaths happen at times; be it CC, healer being bursted/LB'd, LoS, etc... but all they know is that themselves or someone on their team died, so they'll immediately assume that the healer wasn't doing their job. We all make mistakes, too, but often it's just that the other team made a good play and earned their kill/s. It's another unfortunate element of some of the toxicity that happens in The Feast -- people usually won't be willing to attribute a loss to the other team just playing better.
