I would like it if they adjusted the map to allow each plot to upgrade where the plot is. Pay gil to upgrade the plot. Does that make sense? Sure everyone would have a large house eventually, but shouldn't they be allowed to have one if they have the gil for it?

Realistically that's not possible though. Most of the small plots simply don't have the room to expand into large plots. They would be overlapping with multiple neighbours.

And even if that did happen, what about when a plot is relinquished/demolished... would it revert back to the original size or would we be left with wards full of nothing but expensive large houses?

I image the plots would all be large sized and the house itself would just expand with that type of setup. As you said though, it's not realistic for them to redo the current housing wards for this.

I would hate this. The diversity of the plots is what makes it look good imo. Now if you are suggesting that with an instanced new zone, well. Have at it!

That's why I said adjust the map. Totally remake the map so each plot has enough room to expand. I think all plots should start as small plots. Everyone who buys a house, everyone and anyone I've ever known, goes 'Oh ok small.. it's too small. We must upgrade. Now we must upgrade again.' I honestly think it's a nice solution to a problem we're going to see even if they DO give us the amount of wards we want. If we have enough houses to people ratio, guess what the next problem is? Not enough BIG houses.

There already is a diversity with plots, each plot is on a different spot on the map. It's cool enough to have a house on most packed servers, but what if you LIKE the location of the plot? You just want the plot size ON that location to be bigger? I don't see why housing needs to be so exclusive. I would be perfectly happy if they scrapped neighbourhoods altogether and put each house in its own instance, but that likely isn't going to happen because even more people like the wards. This game also NEEDS more of a gil sink, especially on servers like Balmung.

I'll also mention what's going on with Korean servers being merged currently. People who got houses after a certain ward? Their houses are simply being demolished so they can merge the servers. Will the NA low pop servers be next? Who knows. I know I probably don't have to worry about THIS issue since I'm on one of the most packed servers, but people who are not, they might want to cruise reddit a little for the thread and take a peek. If they DO merge servers into Balmung, my house is gone. I got it in a later ward. There's more problems with housing than just not being able to get a plot.

But my bottom line is, once you GET a house there's still issues. You can't 'legally' upgrade from plot to plot, even if you could? On Balmung? One lobby error during ward drop night in that massive queue? EVERYTHING is gone within MINUTES. And I mean EVERYTHING. Even if I hope one day they fix the number of houses on large pop servers, there is still problems on the horizon for all servers.

I both understand and like your idea. I own a cozy small plot Im fine with, but the thought of actually being able to upgrade it to the next size seems logical enough. Would it take some map reworking? Yeah, probably, and when someone demolishes one, the plot simply goes back to default size. Either way, Im sure nothings gonna really happen til Stormblood with the removal of ps3's limitations, so not looking for anything til then.
