Can you do something about gil spammers?

Your "temporary" solution is to add the "advertiser" to blacklist, so they just go and remake another character with a new name and do it again. Rinse and repeat, free advertising.

Fast forward to now. Many patches and a whole expansion later. Problem worse than ever. "Temporary" solution seems to be permanent, and Square offers nothing but automated cookie cutter responses, similar to that of the gil spamming advertisers? Is Square in on it?

Better Temporary Solution #1 - Add a requirement that makes it more difficult to just create new characters that can spam at level 1. A level 10 quest? Or just reaching level 10? Thus more time required in character creation for they can "advertise." This is drastically cut down on the amount of spams per day.

Better Temporary Solution #2 - Reverse Blacklist! I can only accept messages from people on my friends list, or in my FC, or since you have linkshells, give an OPTION to just turn off incoming messages totally.

We already have that option. Just go into your chat tab configuration and deselect it.
It's not a very good "solution" though because it turns off all /tell messages regardless of whether they're coming from RMT spammers or legitimate players. It kind of ruins a social game if we have to turn off communication with our fellow players in order to avoid spam.

Honestly they should just limit the amount of /tells you can send to different people untill you reach LV50+
And i'm talking about hourly. So lets cap it at what? 5 or 10 ? That should be plenty imho.

While that might help some, I suspect that some of these are hacked accounts.
The real solution is a simply right click on a whisper or say to report it as a spammer, have that report auto-log the message and then disable those accounts.

The easy solution would simply be a shortcut to report gil spammer on the Square button (Right click, I think for PC users) under add to blacklist. Also, you're thinking of 'Whitelist'. The term used to allow something while blocking all else

There are over 20 "Solutions" that would help alleviate, or get rid of the problem completely. These will never get implemented however, because SE gets money from the Gil Spamming accounts, and doesn't want to lose that revenue source. Secondly, it inflates their population numbers for management, and they don't want to go to their next meeting saying we lost X amount of accounts. And lastly, they haven't devoted ANY resources in the last 4 years to this issue, what makes you think they'll do so now?

More or less, yes. This. I'm aware of this.

I'd be fine with them not banning gil sellers, if they would allow players to create their own filter rules, that would be a text file you keep somewhere on your pc (for automated updating). Everybody wins!

They ban between 5000-6000 accounts each week for RMT related activity. Not sure how they would make any money off gil spamming accounts. Seems silly. Considering just how big the RMT industry is, it's not something that's easy to fight. They should add an easier way to temp blacklist a player. An easier way to report a player also.
