I've read Heaven-Sword and some other guides, but they are fairly old and was wondering if anyone could help me figure out a good (recent) rotation -- or are those still valid?

There really is no set rotation for NIN, it runs on a priority based system. The only set rotation you'll have is your opener, but if you need some guides on how to NIN, then here you go: Shasta's Guide and a guide from Angered FC

Thnx for Xylomar Xi'an for these tips, all credit goes to that pro-shy-ninja.
Priority system is straight: Dancing Edge > Shadow Fang > Mutiliate
Refresh DoTs when they are below 6 sec in ^ this order.
If your Huton is above 30 sec, use Aeolian Edge.
If your Huton is 30 sec and below, apply Armor Crush.
Weave in this rotation trick attack and shuriken/raiton (based on your latency, ping or hotbar access (which actually should be very comfortable in use). if bad, go shuriken, otherwise, Raiton for days).
And thats all really.
Buy flowers for your Striking Dummy in your house garden, you are gonna date it a lot.
