Not saying attacks like that wouldn't hurt a buttload but if the game keeps referring us as THE WoL then I just can't accept someone was there to take those hits with me. You know? Kinda the reason I don't find most stuff in this game threatening as of late and why I think Harry sacrificed himself for a great reason but it was unnecessary.
Narratively our characters cant take massive hits we don't see coming. Game mechanics has always taken into account that we are proactively defending against incoming attacks. It doesn't mean we couldn't have our throat slit while we sleep or an arrow to the eye that we didn't see coming would just make us tear up a little. That attack would have hit us unawares and unprepared to defend. Also the Sephirot battle directly references our 'gifted' allies from the Adventurer's Guild we call on for aid against primals.
