Spell interruption - Why does it exist and will it be removed?

While not nearly as bad as it is in FFXI, I don't see any reason for it to exist at all. It's really silly when you randomly die because the enemy interrupted your spell 3-4 times in a row.

I don't think this mechanic adds anything to the game, other than annoyance.

    IT ADDS IMMERSION BOO...

In all seriousness, I've only had this happen to me every so often. Yeah it gets annoying, but if that was the case might as well take the Silence spells out, OH those annoying poison spells too God I hate casting Poisona.

Really though, your focusing your attention and concentration on casting a spell. If you are being attacked, something is wrong unless your are soloing... which XIV doesn't cater to soloers as much anymore. Find a group, and you won't have this problem

spell interuption is so you can just go crazy knowing you will land a spell, It doesnt seem to be a bad rate in this game, and they have skills that lower it.

It might be nice if it had like a meter or something, so it wouldnt seem so random. but ehhh people dont really want another bar on the screen

It means that mages shouldn't be tanking.

That's why you better get it done with a chainspell or trance chant, otherwise keep running ahead to cast or territory them away.

It's important to say...interruption rate now is nearly 100% if you get hit from behind. It has been annoying the hell out of me. ><

IMO it must exist...after all you have to conjure a spell...so if you get punched in the belly and happens to scream something outside the spell, like an "Ouch!", it is expected to break the conjuring.

I'm not sure if DeadRiser was being sarcastic or not, but yes...it's immersion.

Expecting people to find a group isn't realistic. There just aren't enough players and there isn't any sort of grouping system; I haven't seen a single EXP group below level 45 on my server. It's worse than FFXI, so being able to solo is a must.

Also, the arguments for spell interruption given here are beyond ridiculous. FFXIV is not real life. It doesn't matter what you're doing to cast the spell; good game mechanics come before realism. If you want the game to be realistic, we may as well change Blind to black out your entire screen and then make most monsters one shot you; you aren't going to be alive after being impaled on a spear, are you?

game mechanics also have pros and cons, and risk and reward. Solo a mage is meant to use a variety of skills, and probably focus more on quick cast spells, also im pretty sure the amount of dmg effects if you get interupted.

skills like stoneskin, repose, sleep, spell interuption down skills, using your big nukes as openers, lowering your enemies attack power, are also parts of gameplay mechanics, that make the whole battle a battle. I have soloed on DoM almost all the time, and i rarely get interupted, sooo i dunno it cant be that bad.

    Like Physic said.

Also, you are probably on one of the lowest populated servers. I'd recommend moving to a bigger one. Lindblum has a lot of parties constantly being shouted for. Besaid, Cornelia, and Mysidia are also good choices.

The problem I have with it is that there is a considerable delay before you even know the spell was interrupted. In FFXI you'd get around this by casting between enemy attacks, but in FFXIV you fight multiple enemies all the time, so it's not possible. Also, the lag is much worse, so timing is difficult anyway.

In any case, I think a system where hits delay your spell rather than randomly either completely break it or do nothing would likely work best.
