Gophers - lol burrow, unburrow, burrow, unburrow. lol 10 seconds of combat 50 seconds of waiting.
Flies - teleport, teleport, teleport, teleport, 10 seconds of combat, 50 seconds of waiting.
Yeah ok this is not very fun.

If they annoy you that much you could just not fight them. I tend to avoid both groups for that exact reason (flies especially because it's horrid when they get Shock Spikes off).
Haha I was just coming to the forums to ask about this~
Sometimes they are part of guildleves...so you can't. The burrowing is stupid repetitive. its not like its OP or I'm dieing, its that I have to take one swing and wait 5 seconds for it to come up again, take another swing and wait 5 seconds rinse and repeat till it dies.
Something else I want to say, is that enemies with shock spikes, lock you into auto attack until you either kill it, it kills you, or the spikes wear off. Immediately after recovering you will auto swing again and get stunned for 3 or so seconds. Its incredibly annoying.
It's not that hard to just avoid the guildleve. I did it in the 20s for Horizon when the cactuar ones showed up and I did it in Muy-Tun with the mobs that spawn behind the wall with the bats that were several ranks higher. I mean if it's one for marks that sucks, but you can always wait for the cycle.Originally Posted by Karbine

Although Moles/Hellmoles are more annoying than they are problematic. Gnats on the other hand are actually fairly troublesome, especially in groups.
I get annoyed every time they burrow. Especially when I happen to hit my WS button just right when they burrow, because it means even though they die from my WS, they WILL still jump up from the ground and use their attack on me before actually fall down and die.
I also pull out my hair when the Gnat and Shock Spikes thing happen. But later on I try to distract myself by thinking in the perspective of the monster. We use all kind of buffs against monsters all the time. So when I get stunned from Gnat's Shock Spikes, I think to myself, "Oh, maybe the Antelope from yesterday were mad at me just like this too! Maybe it was cursing all kind of things at me too." Sometimes this thought makes me laugh and become not so mad.
I had this problem too, and I was really mad about it. I was fighting a gnat and couldn't heal myself. After the fact I realized if I deselected the gnat I could have used second wind after the stun wore off. While a SE fix would be a better solution, this can be a work around for now.Something else I want to say, is that enemies with shock spikes, lock you into auto attack until you either kill it, it kills you, or the spikes wear off. I agree that the WS spam is really annoying. I'd also like to see them make WS damage more normalized.
Yesterday, I was doing a 30+ level and fighting two imps. One of the imps used Impish Incantation for 450 damage / hit three consecutive times. Things like that are kind of silly. In another case, a level 33 humanoid mob did 570 damage with one WS, while I only had 850 max HP; other mobs at the same level normally only WS for 100-150.
What is your purpose in posting? To tell someone how to work around an annoying issue? The point of the thread is to point out an issue that makes the game not fun in hopes that someone might listen and get it fixed (if they also agree).
I found out a technique for leves that required to kill a mole or gnat. First if you are annoyed to fight those mobs, set it up with the lowest star possible or 2 levels below you. that way you get to finish the leve faster and you get a bonus for finishing the leve early. Another technique that I found out was At level forty leve in haliti or something in thanalan by camp drybone. There is one leve there that is required to kill imps that are hiding inside the moles. What I do with that when I get that leve is I try to hit the mole if it turns in to imp then I kill it, if it doesn't then I try to run away and go to the camp for another set of mole. You will get faster exp this way and finish the leve faster. I got 35k exp after finishing 7 leves in about 45 minutes.
I had a leve at Camp Iron Lake(the Necrologos type where you check points looking to spawn a specific enemy) that spawned an "unexpected" enemy group of 3 slugs. After about 15 seconds of fighting, each slug did their AoE silence attack one after the other until I was dead (managed to kill one). I definitely think the dev team needs to look at how often enemies can do their special attacks.
On a side note, I also think leve enemy groups like this should be linked so we can get an exp bonus.
