The reward is the social engagement that comes from doing the content. The "Epeen stroking" as you put is at best an enjoyable side-benefit when folks start to get all high and mighty about how stupid they think raiding is.

I don't care about epeen stroking or accomplishments. I care about gear and being better then everyone else. 10 points of strength and vit isn't really enough to compensate for that.

What's the point of having strength if it goes to waste?
