This is why games like Dark Souls are so fun. Yes, you have really really hard content, but once you beat it; you most likely get something way worth the effort for what you did, it feels good. When you go through all that stress, and get nothing? .... The content's armor isn't even GOOD looking.
The reward isn't anything tangible like gear or mounts and glamour. The reward is the content itself. People don't play Dark Souls to get a good weapon, they play it because it's a challenging and fun game in general.

The excuse of "it's just gonna be outdated later, why bother" is a terrible one. If you don't like the fights then by all means don't do it. But don't blame the lack of reward for not doing it.
