How difficult is it to learn the collectable/favor system?

I've been doing crafting and making collectables is fairly simple, you use one buff.

Though for gathering there seems to be a lot more going on with more abilities. Is it difficult to learn how to do this?

It's daunting at first, but once you find a routine it's easy. The concepts you need to learn:

    1. Like crafting, make sure the collecting skill is active when you gather
    2. For BTN/MIN, collectible nodes appear on specific Eorzean times of day on specific slots. For FSH they appear in specific fishing spots on specific times.
    3. For BTN/MIN, collectibility rating is increased via specific skills while gathering and is affected by Perception. For FSH, collectibility is mostly under the whims of RNGesus, however using Patience increases the likelihood of high collectibility fish.

Favor System is when you activate a favor for a specific map, which gives you a timer to collect as many favor nodes within the time limit. These items are mostly used to collect items that are exchanged for non-scrip crafting mats which are needed for many 2 and 3 star stuff.

My advice for DoL collecting is to make a routine schedule.

    1. Red Scrips - Most people will alternate between Chysahl Greens and Adamantite Ores. Red Scrip fishing is rather tedious and unreliable. The rest of the Red Scrip items will require Folklore tomes which require 99 blue scrip tokens. A hell of a chore but some of the items you can get are useful.

    2. Blue Scrips - Lots of options. My personal cycle is Abalathian Mistletoe -> Morel -> Cuprite, since they appear in succession and are easy to collect.

To start you off aside from the guides posted before me, take a look at the node gathering clock and find a schedule that fits you.

It's easy. The favor system is totally different from collectables. Collectables are things you turn in for scrips. You can get unlimited blue scrips but only the standard 9 red scrips like in crafting. Favors give you the base material needed to make one of 4 special mats that make up end game crafting (ada ingot, astral lumber, astral silk, aurum ingot, and griff leather.) It takes two gathering scrips -- you need 10 of a special item from bot and mining -- to turn in with a red crafting scrip (three scrips total.)

To make gathering collectables, you put the glove and use your mad skillz. Think of it like crafting. Each collectable has 3 durability that you can't go over, like in crafting. Your goal is to increase the collectability. The first and easiest rotation is dis eye -> meth app times 3. That'll net you 2 collectables. Each node has blue and red scrip collectables that give only a tiny amount but are good for practice. It's the best rotation when you're starting out on ada ore without much gear.

You trade in a red gathering scrip, go to the map in question, and deplete 4 nodes until they have 1 thing left in them. What spawns the concealed nodes is finishing a regular node so you're priming them. These 4 nodes can only be for two different groups. If you try to deplete the three group then it resets them. So you deplete then use the favor and start mining. You'll get a message of 'a concealed node as popped up' and you go mine there. You can only get ONE of the special items there, regardless of buffs. Ignore the clusters too, since they aren't worth the special items.

You just do that until your soul has been sucked out of your body or you have 10 items. Whichever is first.

I found collectables for gathering difficult at first admittedly, when I was ready to do it I couldn't find any simple guides. Just guides with way too much information thrown at me and it was overwhelming, eventually I found a video that explained it in the most simple terms possible, it said this:

    1. Find out what item you need to turn in.
    2. Find out what time it spawns.
    3. Find out what slot it's in.
    4. Make sure the Collector buff is on.
    5. Hit this button a few times to raise collectability score.
    6. Hit this button to gather the actual item once it's score is high enough.
    7. If you can't get the score high enough or can't gather it, get better gear.

That is literally the only information I wanted or needed when I started doing collectables for gathering and I could not find a guide anywhere that just laid it out in a nice simple explanation like the one above until I found said video. Short concise directions are what work best for me. Caimie's guide above can be useful, but for someone going in blind or isn't sure what to do or what the abilities they get are, it's just too much information all at once.
