DRG Skill Speed: What is Optimal Range?

Hello everyone,

I am very passionate about playing dragoon as my main class, and I'm confident with my skill level for end-game content (currently on Swindler in A6S). As I find myself trying to arrange my gear to further optimize my DPS, I'm having some minor concerns with my stats. I have my stats listed below, and a link to gear that I currently have equipped. Keep in mind that I only affixed my accuracy to A7S capacity, and I used HQ Pipira Pira for food.

I have posted 1427 DPS on Seph EX, and 1247 DPS in A5S with my current gear set.

I have a feeling that my DET stat is really low, but when I try to optimize gear through Ariyala, I find myself seeing slight increases in DET, but drastic reductions in SS (capping at around 595 SS through melds).

Is my Skill Speed where it should be? Or should I sacrifice some SS to boost my DET stat?

No, your parse is skill based. It's that simple. You're not optimising your DPS enough on those fights to be getting such low DPS, putting it bluntly. At your ilvl, 1350 DPS on A5S is what you should be trying to aim for.


The optimal SS to perform the rotation goes from 485 SS -> 714 SS. The recommended is in the 600 SS range, for balance and to ensure maximum efficiency with your GK and BFB timings. You have people like Dervy who's aiming for 650 SS builds, then some other top-dragoons aiming for 500 SS. The SS only gives you different oCD alignments, nothing more than that.

Party composition matters /a lot/ in terms of how much dps you'll be able to do. I do believe with that gear and no NIN, MCH, or AST, you should be able to crest 1300+ on A5S and 1500+ on Sephirot, though.

Here is a parse I did of Seph EX with no additional buffs while using the Sephirot spear - I didn't get my Slipstream until last week.
+2 weapon damage should push that easily over 1500, likely to 1550+.

You should definitely be doing higher with your gear. By a bunch. You're likely missing optimizations in the fights. Modifying your secondary stats with sideways upgrades is not going to affect change in your actual dps output by any notable amount.
