    Crafting and gathering moving forward

    TL;DR at the start: Please don't continue using the favor and scrip system for the rest of Heavensward and future expansions

    After countless threads here and non-stop complaints in game, I'm sure everybody knows how pretty much every new addition to gathering and crafting, namely scrips, favors and specialist actions (arguably recipes as well), ended up being a massive failure that lured far too many people away from crafting and gathering, both casual and hardcore crafters/gatherers.

    While I'm sure SE has or had a whole plan for favors and scrips for the remaining Heavensward patches, I seriously hope they scratch these systems, as in not removing them, but just not implementing them for future gear.

    The favor system was so poorly thought out that still today, almost 10 months after launch, the cost of making crafted gear for crafters and gatherers goes well into the 8 digits, seeing how 3.0 was analogue of 2.0 (11 individual sets for crafters/gatherers) the entry cost for new crafters and gatherers went up 5 to 10x as it was in ARR, nevermind the increased effort required that took away from time normally used in battle content.

    I'm fearing that the new sets added in 3.3 will involve favors or scrips, and I seriously hope they considered all feedback given in all these months instead of blindly charging forward with their previous plans.

    The scrip system is an absolute pain in the ass and the only reason why I don't have all of my crafters to 60. It is just not fun whatsoever.

    One thing I hate is that culinarian gets lower scrip rewards than the other crafters. It's ridiculous.

    Your costs are often far less as well.

    Culinarian only need raw materials fresh from a gatherer, not like the other crafters.

    I don't know yet how it is with crafters red scripts, but the gatherers red scripts are easy going. 1 round each day (from 5:00 until 11:00 Eorzea time) with miner and botanist and in 4-5 days you have it at cap.
    Cheap high level gatherer equip for just spending around 15 minutes each day

    A scrip system implemented properly is fine to have. The ball dropped on that one here though when they combined it with so many limitations and variances that made it also visually a pain in the ass to see. One example is if the scrips weren't bound to a weekly and total cap, similar to how ARR managed crafting/gathering gear, we'd likely be seeing a vastly different attitude towards it.

    For the most part, unlike combat gear, people don't just sit on their ass with crafting/gathering gear and only use it once in a while because they burnt out from the grind to get it. The entire lifespan of crafting/gathering gear is to continue using it through the monotony that is crafting and gathering lol. You don't feel like you're going to hang up your gear in accomplishment and move on, again unlike combat, instead, you continue using it doing the same things you did even before trying to obtain said gear.

    I honestly believe that if the scrips did not have a cap to them (weekly or total), we'd be in a better position with our perspective on them being positive or negative. Keep in mind though, I do believe that there are other things that hurt the situation due to the previously mentioned limitations.

    Favors could have used the same type of love... as did the unnecessarily lengthy grind of blue scrips to get access to the mats. Gating some things is fine, especially in context of content that involves nothing but repetition to the most basic degree, but it was a little overboard here for that same reason. When it comes to repetition, you walk a fine line between boring burnout and acceptable practice when you implement gates.

    I like the scrip system. It lets me gear up without having to rely on my crafter friends to craft stuff for me.
    However
    I don't think crafter favors/scrips should be linked with gathering favors. That seems silly. I know they wanted a way to USE the favor items but that's not the way..

    Expect the scrip system and collectibles to continue through the end of 3.x. Everything added for crafters in HW has used them.

    Favors, on the other hand, haven't seen any updates at all since 2 weeks in to HW, apart from a couple nerfs and the Azys Lla fix. I hope they decide to use another means for materials in 3.3, but favors are still possible.

    But I like capping in less than an hour every week and being done with it. :/

    Favors can go though. Or at least don't take my gathering scrips, not being able to gear my gatherer's because I needed scrips for favors was frustrating.

    keep them. however dont lock gear behind it. that's the major issue. Same with specialist. Why lock you out of all other classes but 3?? keep it but no specialist recipes.
