    Well, after seeing the screen, I agree with Fyce, "putain" doesn't mean what you imagine in that context, it pretty means "my god" or similar things, it can be understood as "seriously", or "o my...", it is nothing but an interjection without meaning in itself and CERTAINLY ABSOLUTLY NOT an insult.

    Twenty years ago, people were used to say "merde", now, it is "putain". Nothing but a vulgar interjection without true meaning. One similar english interjection is probably "damn".

    They were mainly kidding, teasing you a little. A joke, not very clever, that's right, but Fyce could probably confirm, when french people are really aggresive, they are pretty much more harsh.
