Had a tank not say a word all dungeon. Our healer stopped to inform a newbie boss mechanics as the tank stormed in and tried to solo a boss. He did pretty decent, rotating defense cool downs and recovering health as a war.

Speeding up to last boss, the tank does not pop a single Def cooldown, dies and then does not bother provoking the boss back onto him once raised. He did this three times before saying "I don't know what I'm doing wrong? xD"

    The xD gave him away

I'm not bashing you. I'm just saying that if you use that excuse, then others should be able to do that as well.

Last thing: no, it doesn't matter if they were french or not. You could've said that they were speaking in their own language without saying which one.
    1) From what OP said it doesn't look like he queued with F selected so how is it on him? If anything the F players queueing E while having no plans to attempt to communicate in English should be the ones at fault here.

    2) The language is also relevant since you can only officially queue as JEFG which means the option existed for the other players to queue solely with their fluent language if they can't/refuse to use any other.

I do agree that they weren't necessarily rude in what they said though. Seems more like a misunderstanding of grammar.

Don't get me wrong, these people in OP's story were likely just a bunch of jerks, but what you seem to imply sounds like a double standard.
Except for the part where they were either in the English or German queue.

Don't mark "E" if you don't want to speak English. Simple.

Well, after seeing the screen, I agree with Fyce, "putain" doesn't mean what you imagine in that context, it pretty means "my god" or similar things, it can be understood as "seriously", or "o my...", it is nothing but an interjection without meaning in itself and CERTAINLY ABSOLUTLY NOT an insult.

Twenty years ago, people were used to say "merde", now, it is "putain". Nothing but a vulgar interjection without true meaning. One similar english interjection is probably "damn".

They were mainly kidding, teasing you a little. A joke, not very clever, that's right, but Fyce could probably confirm, when french people are really aggresive, they are pretty much more harsh.

This thread reminds of a song called "Oops J'aime pas l'anglais" :P

Yet he ticked only English and German. It wasn't his place to make the effort.

As someone has stated earlier, it's not a French thing (or an American thing or Japanese thing or <insert Nationality here> thing) it's an anonymity thing that the internet so easily provides. When there is a lack of fear of repercussions for one's actions it just encourages some folks (regardless of age) behave like complete twats.

If indeed the French players queued for English, then they are certainly at fault for not replying to the OP in English.

On the other hand, since the OP had queued for both English and German, for all he knows the French players may have queued for just French and German, being too rusty or poor at English to use it. In that case, he was as wrong for using English as the other players were for using French. Maybe they should all have been talking in German. The problem lies in the fact that, although DF will ensure everyone there has a common language, it doesn't actually tell you what language that is if you'd queued for more than one of them yourself.

    Edit:
I added a suggestion under the QoL thread based on this observation:
    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post3659065
The suggestion is for DF to notify us of which language(s) is/are common to the group. It wouldn't help if people are simply being rude, but at least it would allow players who want to be polite about it to know what constitutes being polite.
