The names he listed probably didn't help that and is part of why he's been met with criticism.

    Personally my opinion is it does sound like a good idea in theory to interview strong pvpers. Ideally he'd want to interview people from different servers and data centers as well. It's a pretty big feat though when figuring out who to interview and making people believe you're credible enough to do said interview without bias, especially if all those interviews are coming from just Balmung/Aether.

    I think he should do it if he wants though. It does sound like a fun little idea
    I think you're right. So I'll shed some more light. I have one character I play on Balmung server. So the main way I will learn about other players is from you guys. The community. Some people have caught on and said "I'd like to see some people from this server too." Luckily I have more ways to get in touch with players from multiple servers now. And that was always the plan, to have a healthy selection of players from classes they main, to the servers and data centres they are in. But my reach alone can only go so far. And I can only get a glimpse of other talent 1st hand in games that I partake in myself. So the biggest and best way to choose these players is by popular demand and for that I need all the support here on the forums I can possibly get.

    So me listing names that I want to do is just a wish list. I can only confirm Jammy To and Straigus. Others I still need to think about who and ask them, they may even turn me down when I ask them. I plan to do as much as possible. That is why I will choose some people who aren't know but I feel so have something valid to share. So not everyone will be known, not everyone will have gold and above ranks but everyone will have something to share. I promise that.

    So yes me being in Balmung does give Balmung players a direct link to me. This does not in anyway mean I won't be trying my best to get in touch with the rest of the community. So you cannot expect me to magically know all these different players in different servers only a couple days after having the idea. I'm not omnipresent. I'm going to need every bit of help I can get.

    (Sorry for the delayed responses I was trying to post this reply almost instantly, but every time I post it says I have reached a daily limit.)

    Edit:

    It would be very cool if I could choose by class, then have everyone suggest player names who play that class. Then I can pick the most suggested/demanded person. The only issue with that is I really would need as much people as possible to make suggestion. And for that.. well first they have to be positive with this all. And it's already hard for people to admit to saying they really respect another player of high skill. Or even say they are also interested to hear what another player has to say.

    I have to say though no matter how it may look sometimes here on the forums. I get WAY more positive feedback overall than bad ones. And if you look at how much attention these posts have gotten already. Most of these people are lurkers who will probably will never speak but will support where they can anonymously.

    At least I hope so... ^^;

    I did say it would be a pretty difficult feat to do cross server/ data center interviews. It's really hard for you to personally know who is good outside of where you actually play. One person said maybe have others pick who they'd like to see interviewed, that might be a good way to do it without making others feel you're being biased.

    I'm not saying there is anything wrong with you having a wish list or even them being from your home server. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, however, players outside of Balmung may feel like it's basically just an "interview people I like or am friends with" kind of thing.

    And the only reason I really felt like it was a misstep is because if you hadn't have said your "wish list" it wouldn't even have been known they were all from your home server.

    It's like gathering info on the entire country just from your city/town, yeah it's hard to go outside of being local, but if you don't it'll cause people outside of your area to question your credibility.

    As for it being hard, you just have to be objective. If say you wait until a couple of weeks after season one starts you can check the rankings on lodestone and attempt to make cross world contacts, and even question others to see if they've fought someone and how strong they felt they were. Just give it some time and do some research and I'm sure if the players you interview at first are at least somewhat various then your feedback and reception will be much more positive.

    Basically don't give up, research your players and your subject, let the season start up a bit, and don't give others a reason to question your credibility or assume you're biased.

    also @Renault: I know you're not trying to come off as conceited or rude , no worries there I've been at the competitive thing for a long time, so I know exactly what you meant. You're right from what I can tell the pvp scene is heaviest on Aether , we do have some decent folks on Cactuar but I think most of the strong players are on Balmung/Gilgamesh. Usually strong and popular are about the same with competitive gaming, it's just when you start listing off names and they're all from the same place it can look kind of bad to others and look pretty biased, even though the idea wasn't meant that way. Hopefully the suggestions I did make just now will help a little bit. It's just a really hard thing to look objective due to the data centers and the lack of exposure of some players out there.

    Basically I do agree with you, I was just pointing out why people are being so harsh right now.
