hopefully 1.20 will include a bazaar-able Melding option.

I think it would make the most sense if the level to meld depended on the materia rather than the gear. Does it make sense that it requires a level 48 craft to attack Strength I to a level 48 item, whereas I would only need a level 1 craft to attach Ultimate Mega Awesome Materia IV to my level 1 item? I'm not really sure myself, but it's just a thought.
The only change I'd hope to see is being able to meld anything with one craft.
Level requirements are fine, but if I want to be a THM, LNC and MRD, why should I have to level Bsm, Arm, Gsm, Wvr and Crp just to magically meld materia onto my gear? It doesn't require the tools of the trade to do it, the NPC gave us special "tools" to meld materia.
Leveling crafts is painful, but we're back to it being required to level th to be at all effective.
It 's non sense that you make a gear by weaver, but would meld it by blacksmith. The only change I'd hope to see is being able to meld anything with one craft.

I think no one force you to level up crafting if you don't like after 1.19. NPC repair is cheap now, retainer market would find most top rank gears, and SE will allow carfter meld item via bazaar. I see no point you hv to level your crafting yourself.
To be honest it's nonsense that one would get the item, the materia, the catalyst, and then put them together on a retainer for someone to walk by and press a button. At that point, why add another layer of (passive) interaction? It seems arbitrarily limiting, like the need for training books (which is going away) or daily leve restrictions (which went away). And not arbitrarily limiting in the level requirement sense, which makes balancing easier (and is present on ALL THREE of the component pieces). Just let anyone jam a materia into an an item if they've gone through the hoops of preparation. If materia melding had STARTED this way, would you guys be calling for an addition of restricting melding to the repairing crafter? Maybe so, but I doubt it would be a very popular thread.
Uh no, you can't attach grade IV Materia to anything lower than lvl 41, so your point is moot.I think it would make the most sense if the level to meld depended on the materia rather than the gear. After getting the hang of things I rather like the materia system, i'm 3 levels from 41 on my wvr, and from there I can materia myself out. The only thing is...I want them to loosen where the materia can go a little bit, not a lot, but it looks to me like blacksmith and goldsmith, maybe even carpenter have a hold on some of the materias that affix to the weapons, and especially when it comes to gatherers and crafters tools. :/ I just want to affix some control on my gear please! only one piece of gear...i'm fine with that, but only tools :[
