Ruin 2. Help me get the right impression.

Hit 38 on sch, and started messing around with it. I immediately wanted to replace ruin 1 on my hot bar... err, not so fast princess! it costs double the MP.

For many levels, I have been frustrated not being able to quickly bring down low HP trash mobs and adds. They were almost never worth an aetherflow stack using ED. Now I have a way to quickly bring them down, and would have loved to have it in Qarn against those dreaded bees. I can now also dodge+attack.

Blind is awesome. Any missed hit is dmg I don't have to recover. Definitely a good idea to hit hard hitting mobs and bosses with it. It IS another mitigation tool. I also believe it is not on GCD. Bonus!

For everything else, which is not much, ruin 1. How's my aim?

Not sure what you're asking, but ruin II is amazing. It is not off the global CD, but it is instant and it allows you to weave in energy drain or any other ogcd skill (abilities typically) with minimized DPS loss, where bio or aero are already applied or not situationally aligned. It is also great for sneaking in a hit before your target can go away, right before you'll be knocked back, or when you have to move for a mechanic and cancel a cast. Ruin II will feel like it costs less later, just because your piety will outgrow it even as it scales.

Keep doing what you're doing. Ruin when possible, ruin II when optimal. It's great practice for broil (170 potency "upgrade"to ruin."

You generally have the right idea. Ruin will remain your go-to filler spell until you get Broil at Level 54.

Besides that Ruin II is basically for:

    1. When you need to move
    2. Weaving in oGCDs (e.g. Energy Drain, Aetherflow, Rouse)
    3. Finishing off low health enemies (where they're most likely to die before you can complete a Ruin cast)

I wouldn't pay too much mind to the Blind debuff it brings. PLDs/DRKs have their own abilities (Flash, Dark Passenger) when it comes to blind, and unlike Ruin II they can apply it to multiple enemies. Most enemies/bosses of worth will be immune to blind effects as well, so not worth relying on it for that purpose.

    Dont rely on the blind
And as others have said, dont replace ruin with ruin II. You will only want to use ruin II instead when you need to move, weave in things like Energy drain or for finishing off an enemy that is about to die.

The replacement for ruin I, Broil, comes at lv 54. It is stronger but ruin II still has the same uses it did before

If MP isn't an issue Ruin II + Booking > Ruin 1

@Rawrs, not really a question. Just wondering if I have the right idea on how to properly use it. I posted this thread thinking I wouldn't head into Cutter's Cry until tomorrow, but an FC mate smirked and took me in there kicking and screaming tonight lol. So I really had a chance to put it to action.

I was SO glad I didn't replace ruin 1. There is so many things you can do! You can finish a mob off not worth the DoT cast, combine it with ruin 1 for essentially a combined potency of 160, but with the advantage of one or both having a crit proc. But I found that even with the addition of ruin 2, ruin 1 still remains a filler.

I also wanted to make sure it is not screwing up PLD flash, or an ability with any other job. But the best use I was getting out of this ability was finishing off trash mobs. I honestly had no way of doing so until now with the exception of ED, which requires a stack. I don't know what it is, but I like getting the finishing blow in :P

Probably never going to be much of a concern. Flash spams blind on everything, and if a PLD uses it periodically in a group pull then everything's going to have blind resist stacked anyway.

The only time I remember this ever being relevant was on Titan HM, because Mountain Buster was able to miss so you wanted to ration Blind usage.

Ruin II is so good on-the-move along with energy drain. It tends to pay off being in Cleric Stance for heavy movement mechanics to keep doing damage. Think of places like Sephirot when you are dodging hands. The blind resistance I wouldn't worry so much about.
