    Statue of the Unsung

In the Churning Mists, there's a statue on a solitary island near Moghome called Statue of the Unsung, which (according to the sightseeing log) bears the inscription "along with the memory of thine heroic sapphire wings" in early Ishgardian letters.

And considering there's only one blue dragon we've seen thus far:

It looks like it was erected for Nidhogg? If so, it seems to hint he was at one point fairly close to the humans, or at least helped them.

Isgebind? Heck, Blue Dragons in general appear to be an entirely common sub-genus of Dragon, based on the Triple Triad card.

Wonder if the Moghome daily quests might shine some more light on the statue... Been wanting the story to go back to the Churning Mists recently... Dravania too, there are a lot of set pieces that just weren't used at all...

Nidhogg looks more purple or black IMO, has Ratatoskr been shown with blue scales?

It could be a memorial to a particular Dragon. Afterall it says "along with the memory of thine heroic sapphire wings" To me it looks like a statue to commemorate a dragon that died within the 200 year peace.

Also isn't Nidhogg described as a black dragon?

True, I was mainly thinking of the other entries/ quests in the area that alluded to Ratatoskr and wondered if we weren't being given some Nidhogg lore this time around. It's quite a large statue, too.

The Moghome quests don't mention it, but they do share some very interesting information that seems to suggest
Tharl Oom Khash was the place where Ratatoskr was killed.

He does look darker now, but his concept art shows him as being a deep shade of blue (at least originally.) I always thought his mind being twisted by rage or something might have lead to the change in his appearance. I'm assuming Ratatoskr is one of the dragons shown in the first picture, but only Niddy is blue there.

I don't think it's that off-base; the Aery was obviously constructed by people with opposable thumbs and nothing we've seen of the Moogles indicates they're capable of that kind of fine stone-work.

'Memory' implies the statue is a memorial to a loved/respected dragon that died. Nidhogg certainly wasn't dead at whatever time this statue would have been erected so I'm fairly certain it's not for him.

I don't think the statue is meant to be for any particular dragon that we might know. It's just intended as world building to highlight that a human mourned the death of a dragon.

I suspect Ratatoskr was grey, since that's in between white and black (the colors of Hresvelgr and Nidhogg).

    I think she was red/orange, based on the tapestry we see in the main scenario;

    Ratatoskr

    Nidhogg

I kinda want to go through that poster of all the Celestial Dragons again now...

    1. Midgardsormr
    2. Hraesvelgr
    3. Tiamat
    4. Bahamut? Possibly Ratatoskr, though the proximity to Tiamat and wings being so prominent has me thinking this is a pre-Primal pre-Allag augmentation Bahamut. It also kinda looks like the hand is right?
    5. Nidhogg
    6. ?
    7. Ratatoskr? Horns facing forward like the previous illustration, and there might be four of them? Colour is close too.
    8. ?

None of them are actually a good match for the illustration from the main scenario... I guess Ishgard might just be lazy in their depiction of dragons? Ratatoskr was displayed exactly the same as Nidhogg, except orange...

Only thing I can say is that Ratatoskr probably had a morphology similar to Bahamut (before she died). I guess we'll never know, unless they pull an Evangelion or Xenogears plot where 90% of Ishgard get fused back into her.
