Video games are a grind....in every genre....thing is making it have enough action and flare to take our mind off of it and not shove it in your face.
I’m seeing a lot of comparisons to Word of Warcraft crafting from some who feel it’s a better system, my question; why don’t you play that game instead? Does FFXIV need to implement the same systems because some feel it’s too tedious? (Some mind you not all.) MMO = Grind and it doesn’t matter what the game title or activity is.
Crafting tends to be more of a solo thing and some find it relaxing compared to the pressure of working within a party to achieve goals. You want kill mob get exp., kill mob get exp. Ok. There is no real difference from craft get exp, etc. One tends to be better with a group the other doesn’t.
I’m with those who feel crafting didn’t need the watering down it got, only a better balancing of level requirements on sub items (with the exception of cooking maybe). Still it’s not for everyone, but in that way the game offers something for a diverse group of players.
I don’t think some of you will be happy until this game becomes WoW2. You shouldn’t worry I’m sure Blizzard is not resting on their laurels and less then a year after Diablo 3 is out, they will start hinting about the next big thing. I for one want a more complex system of crafting then press a button get your item and if I wanted a WoW clone, I’d be playing WoW.
(P.S. Don’t flame me with Fanboy’ism’s, I’m not saying either game or any MMO is better / worse then another, pick the one you like and go play it.)
That may be true, but some MMOs disguise grind better than others. The trick is to get players to actually enjoy the grind. For instance, questing may be a grind, but if those quests gives me fun things to do like bomb a city from a hot air balloon, or mark targets for a bombardier or something similar, the grind becomes more engaging and less obvious. Questing is also a good way to unfold the story of the world. In FFXIV, the grind is there slapping you in the face with nearly everything you do.
sad but true
some grinds are just hidden as stuff that tricks people into thinking its not grindy
but lets face it, no matter how in depth some quests are people DO NOT read the text that goes with any of them in any game, players dont care enough, they really just want to skip ahead and progress to use said quests to level or achieve whatever it was they were doing the quest to do
yes there are a few people who do them for actual reasons of wanting to read/watch/.whatever them, but that number of players is so small its almost non existant
grinding is what MMOs are, you do the main story quests in most MMOs in order to see the story of the game and such, but everything else is just a means to an end after that
if anyone can tell me a game that doesnt make you grind, and actualy explain how it isnt a grind, id be surprised, cuz lets face it, ALL mmos are grinds
as for the topic, crafting has to be time consuming to advance or else it wouldnt be worth doing
people want instant gratification, and unfortunately you wont get it in grinding here, so people will complain
anytime anything isnt super easy and quick, people complain, cuz thats the nature of the beast

I think eq2's might have been longer but it was also more fun so eh.
well i think its funny to kill monsters in party or do guidleves with a group..
its much more fun than Doing soloquests one after an other like in WoW...
I mean... killing as itself can be also make much fun, why not? if you're playing in a group it makes fun.. and thats why MMorpgs are about... not like in rift etc. where you level solo all the time... filling your questbook till it almost explodes and working one "quest" after an other... is that more multiplayer fun than here?
well i like about FF Online :
- the world seems to me more pseudo "real" than any actual MMO right now (rift etc. pp)
- you have much more group fun than in any actual other MMO right now (WoW, Rift, Warhammer etc.)
- Group battles make much fun.
so you think its much better like for example SWTOR to put hundreds of cutscenes in the game with voiceover... then you play through the story and thats it? More is more? well i dont think that SWTOR will be that much more exciting.
is roleplaying all about getting the story represented in one story cutscene after an other like in a passive movie? really?
besides that FF14 has great ingame cinematic cutscenes (and not that less)
well but i would love if they would add more dungeon instances like the dungeons as in FF12 for example..

I actually like the crafting in XIV as it is now. I would love if they could speed it up though, as leveling is insanely slow compared to fighting classes.
Isn't a game in which you pay for your gaming time and then have to use that time to watch movies you acquire yourself inherently very broken? SE should at least stream the movies as we craft.
