    Materia Melding (Forbidden) Collective

    Hello!

    I haven't seen much in the way of % rates people are having with the forbidden melding process. I started a small collection of data from my own experiences and wanted to share my thoughts and see if anyone else had some info they would like to share. I would love to start a collection of the % rates people are having with this process. I did manage to meld a second materia onto a piece of gear (be it a small one even) so I did manage to get some possible % rates for the third materia slotting as well.


    There are a few things I've gathered so far as possible theories:

    1) Things like Gear do not matter when melding (unconfirmed tools)

    2) How much a materia gives can effect the % rate of the meld.

    3) Melding a different kind of materia other than the original one you put on lowers the % of your success on your next meld.

    (Example: Adding a STR materia to a item that already has STR on it is more likely to succeed than adding a DEX materia to an item that already has STR on it.)


    4) Melding a lower tier materia first increases your chances of melding another matiera regardless of tier.

    (Example: You have a better chance to meld a tier IV STR materia after originally melding a tier I STR than you do trying to meld a tier I STR materia to something that already has a tier IV STR materia on it.)

    5) The level of the item seems to effect the % rate of meld (possibly harder to meld to lower tier gear!)

    6) Undetermined if your level effects the %

    7) Undetermined if the more melds you have done collectively effects the %

    8) To the dismay of some, it might actually be that the Quality of the item being melded into DECREASES the % rate of the next materia meld if it's higher than NQ.

    I haven't done extreme in-depth testing, but on 41+ gear, attaching a T4 Materia to a piece of gear with a T4 materia already attached has a success rate around 15%, it seems to be based on the actual value of the materia within that tier (so, for example, a T4 HP Materia that has 60 HP will have a higher success rate than one with 70 HP). I actually managed to succeed at that and trying to attach another T4 gave me around 8% chance of success, so I'm guessing it drops by half each time you add the same tier.

    Adding a T3 Materia to something with T3 on it already gave me about 28% chance of success... but that blew up, go figure =P

    From what it seems regardless if it's + 6 or +10, it doesn't change the % rate of success for the meld. However, the different types of materia, like dex and str, do seem to matter.
