Myth: Wearing Gathering while leather farming?

Heya!! While gathering HQ leather with my friend I noticed him wearing a mix-up of gathering/MCH gear. I asked him about it and he says in helps get more leather + HQ. Need confirmation.

Leather isn't gathered, it's crafted by a Leatherworker, unless you mean Animal Skins which are farmed from killing certain monsters.

The only modifier you can do with gathering skins is quantity, using Mug on Ninja. There is no hq chance modifier that you can use to influence hq droprate.

actually wearing all the same dow/m gear would be better as it would lead to faster kills and that means more chances for items to drop.

the only benefit to using gathering gear would be for materia which you could sell then buy the leathers.
