    Ninja Skill Speed Question

    Hello,

I'm a L60 ninja and would like to have a 2.0 GCD while Huton is applied. What is the minimum skill speed I need to achieve this?

Better yet, has anyone seen any skill speed charts for L60?

    Thanks,
    -Darklune

You're looking for an unbuffed GCD of 2.353.
I don't have an exact number for you but this is some time after 727, when the game displays your GCD as 2.36. At 737, the game displays your GCD as 2.35, but this could be as high as 2.359.

I would strongly advise against going for high SS on NIN, you will cause really bad GCD clipping on your mudras.

Thanks for the concise response Rongway. So I'd need about 740SS....that's a lot. Since Crit, Det, and SS are weighted so differently, why do all of the materia V give +12? Seems like an idiotic implementation of stats to me.

because if all materia values were based on their weights, then there would be zero difference between them, making all secondary stats essentially pointless.

Given that we have worked out the effective weights of various stats, you can state, with near 100% certainty, the best gear sets and melds for any given non-healer class. For NIN, stacking and melding SS will make you less effective than a NIN who minimises SS and melds crit/det only, this is a fact. Granted, it is only a small percentage in difference, but it is a difference nonetheless.

You would need a base GCD of about 2.35 (Huton deducts 15% recast time after skill speed, thus reducing its (flat value) effectiveness with high skill speeds) to reach a 2.0 GCD speed. In other words, just under 750 Skill Speed.

However, for the rotational options a 2.00 speed would provide you'd actually need a lot more just to make room for the inevitable clipping (even Fuma will clip at that speed). Unless Skill Speed eventually reduces animation times (or "animation lock") as well, it won't really be a solid option for NIN. The 2.0 and slightly sub-2.0 GCD options are pretty much limited to MNK, and may need a low ping even then. On jobs that may need to double-weave their oGCDs they end up wasting a lot of their bonus speed and consequent windows / rotational opportunities. It also just doesn't pay off well for NIN in the first place, seeing as it doesn't affect AAs or oGCDs, and has a poor effect on DoTs.

Though there are obvious balance issues between the stats--Skill Speed has an exponential weight, in a sense, and works in specific plateaus with very little benefit between and Critical Strike is the reigning king of stats for almost every job past any required speed plateaus (2.4 for DRG, and enough to maintain AF while maximizing F4s on BLM)--the main reason for this is that the same materia is available to every job, whatever their particular stat weights may be. You're expected, at present, to maximize the stats that actually work, rather than having any real option for what to fill each slot with.
