    Class Change

    Hello all,
Sorry if this has been asked before .. and sorry if this is in the wrong spot .. and sorry if this is a dumb question haha

Anyway its been a while since I played FFXIV, I currently came back and made a Black Mage
But I have decided I want to be a Monk instead.

Now since I initially made a black mage.. should I erase the character and start a new with monk (I know its not monk, but the class that leads to monk)
    Or
Can I just talk to the monk trainer? I remember FFXIV it was easy to change classes just by switching your wep.
But since black mage is a magic user and monk is melee.. didn't know if my stats would be greatly effected.. or are the initially stats you get from the beginning don't matter as much?

I'm only like lv 5 to btw so .. wouldn't be to hard to just erase and restart
I was just curious on how it works.

    Ty

Stats are independent for each class/job. You can easily keep your same character and become a Pugilist (Monk). Your stats will adjust accordingly.

You can just talk to the trainer at the Pugilist guild. Each class has their own stats.

Character stats are not shared between classes. The only thing that transfers are cross-class skills. Just go to talk to the Pugilist's guild (also in Ul'Dah) and you'll be on your way to becoming a Monk! Enjoy Hamon Holyfist.

    AH very cool ty guys
    much appreciated

P.S. So it really doesn't matter what class you pick in the beginning, if you change your mind you can just easily go talk to another class trainer .. if there in the same city as you start in of course, and change your class to something else?

I believe you need to get to the level 10 class quest on your starting class before you can change.
I could be wrong about the level but you you will get told that you can now change classes.

Each class has their own stats, so they don't influence each other at all.

    You're correct.

Also, Nightscar, you you only need to visit the guilds to unlock the classes and to do class quests every five levels (these are important, they unlock some of your most useful skills). Otherwise, you just change classes by changing your weapon, like you said in your first post.

Once you have multiple classes unlocked, you'll be able to assign gear sets as well, which lets you switch all of your gear at once, not just the weapon.

You can play every class/job in the game on one character. You have your initial restriction but upon hitting level 10... you can freely swap to and play anything by changing your main hand weapon (easiest to do by making gear sets for each).
