Why are we doing Expert Roulette for the game's best gear?

Expert roulette gives, what, 195 gear? Gear so obsolete that you can replace it before you can farm a full set. It requires weaker gear, 180 if I'm not mistaken, to enter. But it's the fastest way by a huge margin to get the best gear in the game, rated at 230. That's 50 levels higher than required.

    Why?

Doing an expert roulette each day is boring. I love doing dungeons, but I don't love doing the same dungeon every other day for a quarter of a year. I could get the tomes from other sources, but it would take more than twice as long to get the same amount as one expert roulette.

Better yet, why is tomestone gear so strong? The point of the system is to protect you from bad strings of RNG. Yet it's the only way to get gear. I should be saying "Oh, I did Alex all night and haven't found any gear. But at least I have enough tomes to buy a new item."
Instead, I'm kicked out of parties because the previous raid's gear is obsolete.

This whole system is a mess and un-fun. Just let me do the fun content of the patch and reward me for that. I don't want to grind the boring things just so I can keep my gear up-to-date.

Who said you had to do expert roulette only for tomestones?

That isn't the best gear in the game either.

Also, you are not using the previous raids gear. You are using the storymode raids gear. And you should have a full set of the new storymodes raid gear by now anyway.

I've been farming the pigeons and doing a little bit of the Feast here and there for my tomes, I'm usually capped 3-4 days before reset too. You're not forced into doing expert roulette, sure they're the "fastest" but you should be capping your tomes doing other tasks regardless. You can do raiding content and be rewarded from that, I don't exactly know what you consider fun but smashing my head against a fight 100+ times until we clear doesn't do it for me... but then neither is running Midas 3 normal 20+ times due to bad luck per week.

The Feast is amazingly fun though, I'd suggest trying that.

    I didn't see anyone said you had to, but doing it only for tomes should be true. ^^;
If for other reasons, you can queue for these dungeons anytime, no need via roulette.

Ya I would rather have a system where the tomestones is a catchup mechanic to get you into endgame, but instead the tomestones are the endgame, cuz lets face it.. there's only like 2% of players raiding savage right now... and savage raiding is the only thing that offers any form of challenge... I'd like to see the ex primals be incentivized a little more maybe... but ya, everyone pretty much knows that we will get free lore upgrades in 3.3 to be ilvl 240 so what's the point in doing anything besides farming tomestones...

Still gotta do Savage if you want to upgrade the tome gear, or if you want the i240 Midan gear.

I did. Right up in the post. See how I said it's the fastest way to get gear by a wide margin? It's roughly 2.5 tomes a minute, while anything else I can think of is closer to 1 tome a minute.
Mind, if you're doing a lot of things, then maybe you don't need to do expert roulette every day. But if the content you're doing isn't giving you tomes, then you're forced into expert. When I was leveling my classes all I had time for was expert. And that got old quick.

Is it not? If I'm not mistaken, the best players need tome gear to upgrade to 240 gear in some slots to be fully best in slot. And most players won't play through extreme raids, and that gear will be the only ones that will be upgraded, so yes. That's the best gear they can get.
And don't get pedantic with me. I'd have to double the size of the sentence to be grammatically correct, and even then you'd find something.

What else would you recommend exactly?

Because anything harder than a dungeon roulette and 90% of the playerbase won't see it.

It's been a while since I've played WoW, and I've never been in a static because I hate the idea of being forced into a group I don't like during times I could be doing other things just so one of my characters can be a little stronger for a bit before all that work is invalidated. But from what I remember about WoW, you were doing LFR for your gear. Which was the highest end content below real raiding. And that was fine for me. Do that once a week, maybe get some gear, go back to advancing my character in other ways. Or leveling new characters. Or playing other games, or learning a real world skill, or whatever else you want to do with your time. Point is, you weren't doing content just so you could keep up with gear. You did the highest level stuff to get the highest level gear. And that was great! That's how this should be working. I should be good to go with 220 gear.
But nope. Next patch something is going to be released and my 220 gear won't be good enough. I'll have to do some new raid and grind that on all my classes just so I can use them for the next stuff. It's overwhelming and not fun.

Dungeons give dungeon level gear. Raids give raid level gear. Content gives gear appropriate for the difficulty of obtaining it. Offer a smooth difficulty curve between casual and hardcore content.
    It's not rocket surgery.
