Probably because Machinists get a giant helicoptor turret that flies into the sky and shoots a mega-death laser that looks insanely awesome. Probably. I don't know but that's my guess.

Speaking of monks, actually, I remember reading several months back that it was least efficient for a monk to lb out of all the jobs, even casters at the time. Is this still true now? I only ask because I just can't save gl3 for the life of me, even if I refresh it immediately before using it.
It should do the same damage as NIN and DRG, but if you have trouble keeping up your stacks that's what probably makes it "inefficient".Speaking of monks, actually, I remember reading several months back that it was least efficient for a monk to lb out of all the jobs, even casters at the time. Glamour is TRUE ENDGAME
The only time I ever hold back on LB while on Melee is if I know a mechanic is coming up real soon that will either kill me in the LB lock, or make the target go invulnerable before the damage is calculated. This is when I get really annoyed when the ranged does it, and either misses or dies them self. There are reasons for holding back, not just forgetting about it.
