So there seems to be a lot of passionate people in FF14, a lot of people who want to see this game succeed. You would think that from that observation that there would be a good amount of polite outgoing social people here. I am starting to see a trend that reminds me of my 7 years in FFXI. In FFXI when joining an end game linkshell, you literally had to fill out a job resume as if you were working for a big time corporation. "Oh I'm sorry you don’t have 50 merits so you can't join" or "oh no we prefer a PhD in raiding, you only have a Masters, bye".

In FF14, I have soloed most of the way as well as grouping with friends outside of the internet, so to look at it, I have almost no reputation with the community in FF14 since I haven't grouped with anyone besides what RL friends. This can be looked at as a positive and a negative, negative being that since I have no reputation, I am not apart of the inside group of FF14 and a lot of people will outright refuse to even talk to people like me with no reputation. They won’t even give new players a chance.

I am in Ul'dah and there is a person shouting in English for a group rank 41-46. I am a 44 lancer, I send a /tell to the person in proper grammar stating my rank and class and asking if I could join them on their adventure. I get no response and yet the person continues to shout for members. I stand right next to the person and say in /say and yet no response, still the person continues to shout for members. Since the person was shouting in English, I did not use the translator though I am not sure if that would have made a difference.

I find it rude, just ignoring me like that and then me watching as the person shouts "all set got everyone" and then watching as the person warps out. Could it be that maybe I made a mistake being a lalafel? Maybe the person didn't see me? Were they being bombarded by tells? If so why didn't they just give a simple "no" response, doesn't have to be super polite, any response will do. How should I react to this? This is not the first time I have run into something like this as FFXI it happened all the time.

Having a conversation through /shout can be annoying to people so I won’t do it, random invites made people very angry in FFXI so I won’t do that here.
