    Can we get swimming?

I was much play WoW. Much fun characters can swimming in lake/sea.
    Also mounts can swim.

Then I started playing first FFXIV (I'm now 3month played in FFXIV). I feel weird they can't swimming...
Plus I can't run over from little river. If I wanted "skip" from annoying place like faster.

I hoped FFXIV future characters can use swimming. (also mounts)
Resaon we have already swimsuits in game.

    Sorry if little bad English.

They've sort of talked about swimming in the future, though not very definitively. It might happen in 4.0, but it might not. Even if it does, I'm not sure whether or not that means it will be a retroactive change (making swimming possible in all 2.0 and 3.0 areas) or if it would be exclusively for 4.0 areas like flying is for 3.0 areas.

It would require a good deal of work, and I feel like if they do it at all it should apply to all bodies of water (so the invisible walls we have at shorelines would need to move back a lot). I'd also urge them not to try messing with underwater combat too heavily if at all because it's usually so bad, though maybe that's just my experience with GW2...

I doubt it would be retroactive. Just like flying, 2.0 maps weren't desisgned with these features in mind. Going oob in few 2.0 maps clearly show it.

I always thought it was a very poor design decision to cut out swimming in any form, let alone underwater combat. Sure it might have saved them some time in the beginning, but by now it just seems so ugly and lazy, and it really limits the design and gameplay potential of the zones. Even if all we could do was swim across the surface of rivers and lakes, it would be a huge improvement.

I just want to be able to swim in Costa Del Sol for reasons..... Not too motivated to do underwater questing/combat though. Bad memories from a certain other MMO.

I really enjoyed underwater questing in wow, they did a great job at pulling it off imo, very smooth.
Rift swimming was much more clunky and awkward to control ones character/surfacing etc which took away the enjoyment of it.

FFXIV did a superb job in the execution and implementation of flying, I hope they do just as well with swimming one day.

If it comes with underwater combat, no thank you. Melee combat in 3D space is a nightmare to deal with. The only people I've met in WoW that actually liked questing in Vashj'ir played ranged classes. Everyone else couldn't stand it, me included. I still wake up in cold sweats remembering how horrible the experience was as a Rogue and I'd rather not see the same thing repeated in FFXIV unless SE does an absolute tits job of making the combat spectacular. This game already has issues with minor differences in elevation so they're going to have their work cut out for them if that's something they want to implement.

I agree that underwater combat is horrible, but please bring swimming, it's so weird to not have it.

As to it being exclusive to the 4.0 areas as flying is to the 3.0 areas, i do hope they do something like WoW did, some expantion\patch that brings flying (and swimming in this case) to old areas

I'm not really a big fan of underwater combat or swimming. Driving around a fast submersible (emphasis on 'fast') would be ok though.
