How about reducing swiftcasts cooldown by 50%

As a caster (blm especially) standing still and casting is the focus.
We can stutter step, and we have swiftcast.

I was thinking if we could reduce swiftcasts cooldown by half,
it would allow for a lot more movement.

It wouldn't raise DPS a whole lot, but it would help with the mechanics and the trends they are heading towards. (see sephi X)

Now I know that the dungeons are doable as a caster like blm, but this would just add more usefulness to swiftcast, without creating a tonne of other problems.

I don't see any negatives at this time, but I don't play as a healer, so if there is any real negatives anyone can bring up i'm all ears aswell.

I can't say I've ever had an issue with its 60s cooldown, tbh. Sure there are times you might go "oh my swiftcast is on cd, need a few to res or slowcast, but meh.

I'm gonna have to play devil's advocate on this one.
For what swiftcast does, the cooldown time is appropriate. Having anything on a shorter cooldown would be nice, but im not heartbroken over it.

Well, I certainly wouldn't mind it having a lower cooldown. In fact, I'd be fine with them removing the cooldown. No ulterior motive, honest.

More seriously it would be rather powerful for all of the jobs which cross-class Swiftcast, and even for BLM it would have an impact in other content. That said, I'm not going to complain if they buff all of my favourite jobs.

My little BLM is only level 28 so not really even a BLM yet so I don't have first hand experience with this. However, I can see as a caster with long cast times how their DPS would suffer in movement intensive fights. You move, you go to cast, and right before its fully cast you have to move again, happens to me as a healer all the time. Perhaps rather than a shorter cd on Swiftcast an addition of something like AST's Lightspeed would be appropriate here. Its one of my favorite skills AST has actually Its not instant, but it lets you get fast casts off while having to move.

If they made BLM more mobile then they would have to take a nerf to damage. BLMs have been buffed in the past to compensate when mobility was an issue.

If they made it as a perk for only BLM, then I can't argue. For everyone else though, I say nay.

If movement is insane, I just stay away from Fire IV until movement required slacks up.

It's just a matter of deciding when it's worth it to stay away from Fire IV, just like how BRD/MCH has to know when it's worth it to stay away from Gauss/WM.

The DPS hit taken actually ends up being smaller than trying to Fire IV with every other cast being interrupted.

BLM has always been a turret of a job, so I don't really think Swiftcast needs changing. BLM, like BRD and MCH, just has to know when (more) mobility is worth having over the stationary rotation that's used in more optimal conditions.

Never, you never take off WM. As much as I hate WM you lose two of the most important skills the class has added.

    My mistake then.

I'm somewhat new to MCH and BRD, but have been advised by a few people that if I'm finding I'm having to interrupt casts constantly, that it's better to just drop WM/GB.

I'm mostly playing MCH and so far can see why dropping GB may be beneficial in some situations for that at least.

I also main BLM now and can say for sure that leaving out Fire IV has been better than trying to DPS with it in some situations.

BRD may be different though, if its DPS is just so god awful without WM that it's just worth squeaking out casts with it.
