Didn't they say in the live letter Q&A the next tier of crafting/gathering gear will be crafted, not bought with scrips, and that you will need current gear to make it?

It's the only reason I'm still meeting my red scrip quota every week -- in preparation for crafting a higher-level universal set that will instantly obsolete the red scrips gear I haven't finished getting....

They did say that, but consider for a moment how true it is. Will having the current best gear allow you to make the new stuff? If you are a WVR or LTW, then almost certainly yes. GSM, BSM or CRP? Possibly - depends if they add new accessories and/or tools (neither was shown in the picture). ARM, ALC or (especially) CUL? Upgrading gear now most likely means nothing and is a waste of scrips, materia and/or gil.

There's not much of a difference in stats between a Specialist or not, so a main GSM or BSM or CRP can gear up their WVR or LTW before 3.3 comes around to be ready for it.

Of course, they could pull a "specialist only, lol!" card on us again, and at this point, I'm ready to bet they will.

I'm rather bitter about this all, by the way. The new jewelry is just insane to max meld, and I am super weary of going for cheaper alternatives because of past experiences. Maybe they didn't expect people to go the V>IV>IV>IV>IV route on the accessories, but they're deluded if they think players won't opt for "best in slot" when they can.
