I also hate tanks that just immediately say "I'm MT" upon entering it just looks desperate. It's arrogant as fuck and winds me up if you are the other tank. Let's say I go "no I wanna be MT" it would be stupid so I just let them stroke their ego. What is wrong with communicating?...or if no chat then just whoever gets on it first is MT. Today on Good King Moogle this guy goes "I'm tanking the King" immediately upon enetering. I went "good for you have fun 1-2-3 boy" and everyone lol'd. I afkd the rest of the fight and received 5 commendations ><

On a boss I was MT for about 10-15 seconds and the other pld approaches and uses provoke, and then proceeds to use it every time it's up because I was just above him constantly. I never said anything and assumed he would just switch to sword oath but he did say something..."ffs nez use sword oath you're making the aggro wonky". I replied "meh you used provoke against the boss I was already main tanking when no one else was anywhere close to pulling aggro and MT wasn't dead, and you keep using it lol". he replies "you don't even know how to off tank just quit". It's not like I think he doesn't know what provoke does either. I'm pretty sure he knows exactly what it does and just wanted to do his best to push me off MT. Rest of party starts to go "grabs popcorn" etc.

I believe that's what communication looks like. Using "Wanna MT?" is more polite, but if you want to MT very badly, how in your opinion it should look like, to do not hurt your pride? Beg for it? :P

"I will MT if you don't mind" is also a possibility, however i suppose you would consider it desperate too?

Also, there is nothing to be proud about AFKing whole fight. Even if you didn't like the other guy, you shouldn't punish whole party for it. The fact you got commends are only becuase your comment was funny. You shoudn't get any however, mind that.

Secondly, You can't act like a jerk, when they act like that, cause you are becoming same as them. You should have switched stance upon voke and let the jerk struggle.

Other players' bad tanking is not an excuse for you to act like them, or even worse.

Normally I just stay in tank stance for the first 15% of the boss's health, spamming RoH combo until it hits 15% then i swap to sword oath and I've never lost aggro doing that

If you're not on your tank stance and take enmity from the person MTing, yeah, they're probably doing something wrong. Your devil's advocate argument is a little flawed mostly because no tank worth their salt will constantly spam their enmity combo over and over again, because they have other combos that will help out the group more due to boosted DPS, damage mitigation/self-healing, and raid utility. Sometimes you'll get your agro stolen from you for a split second by that special DRK who lives and breathes the Power Slash combo, so you have to decrease your personal contribution to the group by a bit in order to keep enmity on a boss from someone reducing their damage by 20% and also using their weakest combo DPS and utility-wise. Of course, you could always say, "just be the bigger person and let babby main tank", but I personally refuse to let someone who's playing their job subpar triumph, so instead I'll make them feel frustrated that they can't take the boss off me.

For 24 man B Alliance tank always MT.
that's a curious order, considering that a group more often than not benefits more from a PLD OT and a DRK MT, instead of the other way around.

I /cheer on the other tank and wait for a response w/o tank stance on. If he does not move then I charge in (tank stance) and switch it off once he starts attacking.

I guess WAR is excusable to certain extent since highest potency combo is Butcher's Block combo and PLD is also excusable when at a level before getting their late dps skills.
I'm learning to be a better OT, as I'm used to being MT since 2014 when I hit Lv50 as PLD and WAR. Anywho, from what I understand, an OT tank's high potency attacks come from their enmity-building combos. If he's in dps stance, and the MT is in tank stance, hate should not be stolen. Some problems occur if the MT decides to drop his tank stance just as the OT may have used offensive buffs plus the enmity combo. If an OT is to dps, he should STILL use all his attacks and abilities except Provoke, Flash, Unleash, and Overpower.

I did at least two Power Slash combos on the boss, and after the first jump the boss does, he takes aggro, which I can only assume he voked and/or had shield oath with fight or flight and spamming his RoH combo. So whenever something like this happens, I take my tank stance off and let that person MT, to avoid having the boss go back forth between us. If you want to MT that bad, fine, just say so or pull first, and Ill let you.
This happens to me in Void Ark as well, but it's usually the other tanks being in tank stance. If I'm the only DRK, and we are standing there for a few seconds, I assume I'll be MT due to lack of OT utility that PLD and WAR have. However, if I pull, then the other tank take aggro, I immediately drop my tank stance. I don't like competition for hate control.

I get its just Void Ark, its dead easy and maybe nobody cares about tank etiquette in such an easy place, but I like to give my best at everything I do, and I still get annoyed by that. Goes without saying though that in harder content, OTing in tank stance and/or trying to take aggro/voking when there is no need to is just bad.

    Thoughts?
I'm not bothered by it. I mean, I prefer to MT, but as I noted above, I'm not going to fight for it. In a Void Ark run last night, I went as DRK (I flagged my Beast Tribes quests as DRK, so I just queued the Mentor Roulette as DRK and got into Void Ark). I MT'd every main boss. Then, we get to Echidna, and I'm then met with competition from the WAR who was into Defiance and Provoked. I simply dropped Grit and disengaged. Found out later that his group dared him to take aggro off me. Joke's on them lol...

I seen OT's take hate a few times in 24-man raids, heck did it a few times myself as PLD in Syrcus in sword oath (PLD suck as OT since RoH was our best DPS move back then... which gains arrgo) that happens I go stand becide them & see if they actually can/will take it back (which if they used only arrgo combo's they should) if that fails then fine Tank stance it is... even if runs were that happens I was the only OT who actually grabed adds (most of the reason I run 24-man raids as tank cause it see them ignore them to much)

Heck think 1 Syrcus run I got all 7 commends from my team cause I was the OT that cared while the other 2 played spin the boss for all but X'ande (cause I took him as Sword oath PLD... & they thought I used provoke pfft didn't even need it thanks to their aparently undergearedness, thou I do feal bad for them, think 1 tried to provoke it back 3 times but I was shield oath by then & they had bad timing)

had one in VA the other day on Cuchulain, can't remember which class it was but they even popped Provoke, (I was on WAR), I saw the provoke and laughed. I'm far from an epic WAR but I don't share hate ever and they failed pulling it from me so, it was funny tbh HAHA
