Credit Where Credit's Due

Why do we lose our participation for FATEs when we accept a queue or die and take the return? I honestly don't understand this. I can finish a boss fate and accept a queue when it dies but if I don't wait for that visual completion notification, I don't get credit. I die in the Eyes fate, but because I took a return to Quarrymill, I don't get credit if I don't make it back before death.
I would be fine with going to an NPC to pick up any unclaimed xp/gil/gc seals as they give me sass for "having more important things to do." I just want credit for my participation.

You actually do retain credit if you can get back into the zone as it finishes.
It's likely a technical limitation keeping it on a per-zone basis.
