    I still don't understand. I feel so stupid. Can someone explain this to me like i'm an eighth grader?

    Can anyone give in an example: Funguar Shriek Materia 1 Sleep Resistance +2

    How this item is to be used and an example of how it is not to be used?

    You're not reading anything wrong. Materia effects only work in PvP, and during PvP, materia effects are ignored.

    So it doesn't work.
