Is there a possibility of updating some of the textures?

Final Fantasy 14 is the most beautiful MMO I have ever played...until I zoom in. I've been playing on ps4 for a year and recently switched to pc. I expected the textures to be a bit better, but it seems thats the only thing to not change, even at max settings.

These textures include the ground, plant, monster, and some clothing textures. It just sort of sticks out I guess? When everything is beautiful and you throw in some poorly rendered ground textures, the ground will more likely to stick out. The plant/ground textures look like they came from the PS2 to be honest. Reminds me of the .hack games I played as a kid.
So maybe 4.0 we can see an update for this? Whats the point of having such a beautiful game if you're not going to fully commit to all aspects of the game?

Side note: Using consoles as an excuse isn't gonna fly. I'm pretty sure ps4 can handle an update,if not, consider giving PC some better graphic options? Ps3 is getting dropped so that doesn't matter.

    *sighs* Not this thread again...

Look, it's been discussed plenty of times in the past - FFXIV was developed with the emphasis on accessibility, especially making the game available to as many players as possible, meaning they wanted the game to run well on the widest possible selection of hardware, including low-end computers (case in point: although officially the minimum requirements for FFXIV ARR is Windows Vista, I can confirm it runs extremely well on even a low-end machine still running Windows XP Service Pack 3 with a measly 2gb of RAM and a video card from 7 years ago.). You simply would not have seen the 5 million+ subscribers ARR has if SE limited their focus to those with $5000 top-of-the-heap gaming rigs. SE tried making FFXIV more for high end graphic-intensive machines once before and... well, we all know how that turned out.

Besides, even Yoshi himself said that SE has had the "graphics disease" for too long (in other words, obsessed with producing beautiful looking games... at the expense of everything else, like story, characters, gameplay... you know, what an actual game consists of.), which is the thinking that doomed FFXIV 1.0 before it was even launched. And because ARR's whole purpose was to fix the problems with 1.0, graphics are hence the trade-off for focusing on gameplay and story, it's one of those "can't have your cake and eat it too" deals.

And as Yoshi is also a big fan of the older style FF games (he's on record as saying his favourites are FFIII and VII), I don't think you will see any major change in the graphic engine any time soon... if at all.

I'd say the game looks pretty great already, honestly. It's one of the most aesthetically pleasing MMO's out there. I'm certain that they'll make tweaks from time to time and as the developers get used to getting around limitations future zones will likely continue to look even more detailed than the existing ones.

    As a PS4 user, streams of tears are running down my face as I know this will never be possible ;3;

Not sure to understand why low end PC/Platform is used as an argument for not supporting HQ textures.
Low end PC and PS3 can continue to use current texture and provide an option to display HQ textures for those who want/can support it.
This does not take any network/server resources and only impact performance of the local user machine.

The only thing that HQ textures would mean, is more hard drive space.
So this could be provided as like an extra dld for those who want them.

I'm pretty sure that when they are designing the world/weapons/outfits/monsters/etc, they create full HQ textures, then compress them for the final release.
So I don't even think it would mean that much extra work for SE.

I'm all for a game should not all be about graphic, but we're only talking here about HQ textures, not changing the 3d engine or increasing the number of polygons, I don't not feel that it's asking too much.
Tell me that some one here would complain that when taking a screenshot up close on your chara, that you wouldn't appreciate not to have all these low textures on your nice outfit?

Problem is the low res textures are obvious even when you don't zoom in. Cut-scenes look pretty bad. Mountains/terrain and armors/mount's skin look rly low res. They could implement it and people on consoles and old/weak PCs can still keep using the current ones. It can be an optional download for those who want it. Texture res is kinda too low for this time and age (speaking at least for PC). It's one of those things you think you are fine without until you actually see it and then realize how bad it looked before. I think the game will further be improved visually the next years and there MIGHT be a chance we will finally see better textures but until we have a strong hint from the Dev team I'm not expecting anything to be improved. For now I wish they would fix the horribly flickering shadows on DX11 which are broken for quite some time now (see tech support forums for this issue).

They are still working for DX11 like graphic features for PS4. (As PS4 can't use DX11 as it's an MS Windows API only but they will bring some visual features to PS4 so that the game will look similar to PC DX11 client).

Then Yoshi is bananas as that's never been the case for any main series FF game. Sounds more like an excuse to get away with using poor quality textures/models, reusing all the assets they can, etc. especially since the examples you gave of what they should focus on (story, characters, gameplay) are all equally poorly constructed. Dunno why I'm posting this on a forum where only paying subscribers can post, but whatever, doesn't make it less true. When accessibility starts harming game quality you run into a massive problem for those that aren't running it on PS3 or a toaster. Fortunately everyone thinks they're a business major so they "understand" SE's predicament and ignore all the glaring flaws XIV has.
