Should tanks ask to do big pulls?

I'm trying to level up a WHM currently and I've never used a casting class (in any mmo ever) so of course i'm going to a newbie at it. If a tank pull big at the request of another (let's say they're in TS) and doesn't tell the healer and wipe...does the healer get blamed? I ask because i had a similar experience and was blamed but...they never even asked me if i could do big pulls. Do players expect a healer they get in df to be good at the job all the time? WHM is fun for my first "MP" based class. I'm not mad or anything or towards the players that blamed me even though no one told me. All a tank has to is ask...I know its easy to get carried away when you're used to doing something a certain way for a while but asking before pulling is the polite thing to do that's all. It was only 1 experience so again..i'm not sour about it but i am worried that it's something i'll be going through.

"Welcome to the world of Healing" I guess.

I tend to examine the healer's gear before attempting any big pull, while i know the gear isn't everything it gives me a rough idea.

Of course, if it goes south i apologize but no, i wouldn't blame the healer considering i didnt warn them beforehand.

The blame falls squarely on the shoulders of those who assume a healer can handle big pulls instead of taking two seconds to ask first.

With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.

As a healer, I think you should try to assume that every tank will do big pulls. This way you are prepared for it. While its nice that some tanks will specify they are doing big pulls, it has become the norm and therefore most wont blink an eye and immediately will assume the healer can roll with it.

If you arent confident in your ability to handle large pulls (within reason) then I'd suggest making that known at the beginning of the party beforehand.

Ultimately should a wipe occur, I'm of the mindset that both healer and tank share the blame as either could have expressed their preference in the beginning.

I don't think anyone should assume either way but they do. Just like the new person message, they don't call out who it is to give that person a little breathing room. It's called courtesy, and it would be nice if more people expressed it. It wouldn't kill a tank to ask since big pulls are the exception in my opinion not a new healer.

As a melee DPS, I don't think it hurts to ask. "Hey, are you guys okay if I do a big pull to see how this group handles it?"

During the entire 2.+ line I've had one tank stop after the first pull and go "Oh shit, I have a MNK & DRG. Time to adjust my pulls." Sure, the healer, MNK & I were able to handle that big pull, it just took awhile.

Tanks have mitigation cooldowns and what not, if they pull big and you do not see buff icons coming up and they blame you, just tell them politely that they did not even try to mitigate the damage in any form. They should be rotating their mitigation in 4 man dungeons anyway since it would allow you as a healer to DPS, higher level play I do not know, maybe the tanks at Heavensward content pull in dps stance. Wouldn't be too worried about it in any case.

As a tank I normally ask if the healer wants big or normal sized pulls. Even if the healers someone I know. Sometimes healer isn't someone's main, or maybe they real a little 'off' that day, who knows?

Most of the recent dungeons have doors or invisible walls that don't open until everything before it is dead, and I can't think of a single pull in these dungeons that isn't incredibly easy for any healer who isn't afk to manage if the tank pulls all mobs possible.

In 2.0 dungeons though, I've seen some ridiculous pulls that I have no idea why the tank thought it was manageable. Just know what is a reasonable amount depending on the dungeon, I guess.

Also to paladins who do big pulls, use your stun action when CDs are down for extra mitigation. 6 seconds on every monster is essentially a free Hallowed Ground and eventually diminishes to 3, then 1. You won't run out of TP.
