How often do the different Races inter-mingle with each other?

There's a very tiny portion of posters who post here consistently. With that in mind it stands to reason that certain people will gravitate towards specific issues that interest them across multiple threads. 3.3 is still a way off and the developers are - thankfully - tight lipped about future lore developments.

That does mean, however, that the people who regularly post here lack much in the way of fresh material to discuss. I'd like to think my posting history speaks for itself in that I hardly post only about Garlemald. I've also posted in many lore discussions without mentioning Garlemald at all.

So when I saw this thread I figured I'd say my piece. The setting doesn't shy away from embracing 'gritty' themes from time to time. It does, however, have a habit of only really making the antagonists rather than the protagonists display racist or xenophobic views. It's pushed as a negative thing at almost every turn and as something that should change - even when ingrained into a fictional nation's culture.

Given that one of the biggest talking points in regards to Garlemald is their racism and xenophobia I'm struggling to understand why it's being considered 'off-topic' for me to bring it up here.

As for my comment about 'cat girls' it was meant as an amusing quip, one which ironically seems to have been indirectly proven true given the fuss made in regards to it.

Not everybody is going to like me, my posts, my opinions or my sense of humour. That's fine. I'm not here to engage in a popularity contest or get up in arms over select quotes taken out of context. If someone truly finds my posts so irritating then I'm sure there's an ignore function that can be switched on.

Regarding racism and its whitewashing in the game:

I don't think it's entirely innocent of it, but I also think you're projecting more "grit" onto the setting than there is, Theodric. You're taking some morally dubious aspects and assuming other morally dubious aspects must then exist as well, when in reality, it's what's on the screen that matters. Our protagonists not being xenophobic isn't unrealistic or avoiding issues for the sake of being "PC" - it's what makes them our protagonists, especially since they're surrounded by less forward-thinking individuals. And, considering that all of the city states have a bit of an "open-minded-leaders-versus-morally-dubious-status-quo" thing going on, claiming that that's betraying the setting somehow is ignoring that it's always been the setting.

Honestly? Your worst fears have been realized from the first. Final Fantasy XIV already adheres to modern sensibilities and morality, and always has.

I should elaborate:

By 'grit' I'm referring to the fact that Eorzea is a very dangerous, unpleasant place for people to live. There's the inequality in both wealth and social status to consider, supposed xenophobia and racism (something played down significantly from 1.0 - 2.0 and beyond), various horrible monsters prowling the wilds, necromancy, slavery, banditry, the risk of invasion/conquest, the Calamity and it's aftermath, political intrigue, hypocrisy of world leaders, Primals/Eikons being summoned repeatedly, Tempering and...the list goes on.

I originally made this to discuss about interracial romance, not debates but then again I do tend to go off-topic when I start a conversations sometimes and becomes something else so it happens. Well it's nice people get to share their thoughts with each other and learn more about each other and the game we play. Though I do like to see people being more civil with each other and calmly explain to each others' views and opinions with a bit more optimism.

And to Theodric, I do not mind your posts in fact I find them educational as you try to expand more on the lore of Garlemaid and I'm thankful for it. I, too, made a small joke once from a fanfic when reading about the MC and his wonderful massages in a way and might help relax one of the females in the story (who's a tad older than he is) and to make her confident again and someone took the joke WAY too seriously or was so offense by it they insulted, ridicule for my insensitive, and my "disgusting" humor and I was going like... what did I say that was so offense? Well taking a step back and see from another angle it does seem to be in poor taste, but for those who read that story would understand what I was going for though I should've worded the joke better. Though that people also got scolded and I didn't get as much heat, but still I felt uncomfortable about it though I choose to forget about it and not worry.

You'll run into people like that from time to time. Just be yourself (though try to be respectable as well... no need to start a fight) and enjoy life one day at a time.

Anyway nothing derailing let's go back on topic.


So anyone spotted more interracial couples via Quests and Lore? I like to see what other races mingle with... so far (though Au Ra not counting as they're new) Roe seem to be the race that's less likely to get with other races (aside from Hyur and Miqo'te... I have yet to see a Roegadyn and Lalafell coupling outside of players marrying each other).

^I know which Lalafell that is, but I believe it was from a Questline where it mentions he was touching her butt than outright showing it and the NPCs for them disappear or he goes back to Moraby Drydocks in LLN.
