That they haven't gone hardline on portraying racism so they don't hurt the feelings of people playing catgirls? I guess I can understand standing by those words, since they make for a nice easy target for criticism. Certainly easier than just standing by your own conclusions, have to insult others as if that some how reinforced your argument (pro tip, it doesn't).

As for Ishgard, the poor pushing against the upper crust of society that has been stepping on them isn't exactly modern...unless we stretch modem back to at least 1789. Also we often interact with non-antagonist characters that occupy more of a middle ground between full on disdain for the other class and full on "P.C." acceptance.

Plus there's the background world building stuff, which is neither protagonist our antagonist, just showing how things currently are in Ishgard (and the other city-states).

It was a lighthearted jest. I mean, if you want to pretend as if there isn't a lot of fan service when it comes to miqo'te then be my guest. It's not necessarily a bad thing either - I'm certainly not opposed to eye candy.

It was a description of exactly what it appeared like you were doing.

Given that you do have a tendency to complain about Garlean portrayal (you're prob their biggest fan...I've seen the pictures on MMO-C), you'll have to forgive me for taking what looks like an insult related to why they are portrayed that way (which also happense to be a common actual insult, which is blaming on others because "they are the ones with a problem") at face value.

Maybe the fact that this thread couldn't make it two whole pages before devolving into into a tone argument is evidence for why the community couldn't handle a nuanced, realistic portrayal of video game racism.

Because I honestly don't buy that it's a joke - it's consistent with the opinions I've seen him give here and on another forum more than once. Unless he was joking every single time then, I have little reason to believe he is now.

There's also the frustration that after specifically calling out the issue I had that led to my first post in response, it apparently took till this page for him to even recognize that. Might be considered a character flaw, but I tend to get quite frustrated when people what I wrote is misconstrued or people put words in my mouth, as I'm very particular about what I write down.

I also find the whole "they did it because these people are too sensitive" to be a terrible cop out to legitimate discussion, which I'm not sure if you noticed but after my initial couple sentences across two posts about that one specific part of his comment, I then continued with addressing the actual thing being discussed until I had to spend another couple posts clarifying my original comment.

As for Garlemald...again, to go with his posting history, I've often seen him drag in his problems with how the Garlean Empire is portrayed to posts where that wasn't really part of the discussion - it's his particular pet topic. Where there were criticisms of the story telling, criticisms of how Garlemald has been portrayed (some of them I are criticisms with which I agree) a typically aren't far behind.
