I'm tempted to agree with Theodric. Spoilering in case the topic has moved on, I haven't read the whole thread yet.

Honestly, the issues with racism and xenophobia in-universe are very diluted in ARR. Like, we're told that Gridania is xenophobic but I've never actually felt that way, even as a Duskwight.

Even doing something like the Archer questline where one character is all hostile and angsty towards outsiders, I never felt it. In fact, this hostile character was condemned. SE is sending me mixed messages here; Gridania is supposed to be insular, yet the one NPC that actually shows such behavior is scolded for it. I actually liked the guy, though, he was super cute and tsundere for you by the time the questline ended.

The same goes with Ishgard, really. Once we actually got in, I didn't really feel like they were terribly xenophobic.

It's kind of a big problem with ARR in general in that the city lore relies a lot of tell-don't-show. Which is really a shame for me, because I generally find inter-racial politics and long-standing grudges in fantasy to be extremely fascinating and they tend to be some of my favorite aspects of lore.

PS: Needs more sympathetic Duskwights. I guess Urianger uses a Duskwight model, so maybe he counts?

I don't quite understand what your issue is with his post, I took the catgirl comment as a joke. Why would he be serious about it and what would it have to do with Garlemald?

Because I honestly don't buy that it's a joke - it's consistent with the opinions I've seen him give here and on another forum more than once. Unless he was joking every single time then, I have little reason to believe he is now.

There's also the frustration that after specifically calling out the issue I had that led to my first post in response, it apparently took till this page for him to even recognize that. Might be considered a character flaw, but I tend to get quite frustrated when people what I wrote is misconstrued or people put words in my mouth, as I'm very particular about what I write down.

I also find the whole "they did it because these people are too sensitive" to be a terrible cop out to legitimate discussion, which I'm not sure if you noticed but after my initial couple sentences across two posts about that one specific part of his comment, I then continued with addressing the actual thing being discussed until I had to spend another couple posts clarifying my original comment.

As for Garlemald...again, to go with his posting history, I've often seen him drag in his problems with how the Garlean Empire is portrayed to posts where that wasn't really part of the discussion - it's his particular pet topic. Where there were criticisms of the story telling, criticisms of how Garlemald has been portrayed (some of them I are criticisms with which I agree) a typically aren't far behind.

It's a low level insult, true, but there all the same and completely unnecessary to your argument.

Or did you really not realize that taking unnecessary digs at others is one way to insult?

It was a lighthearted jest. I mean, if you want to pretend as if there isn't a lot of fan service when it comes to miqo'te then be my guest. It's not necessarily a bad thing either - I'm certainly not opposed to eye candy.

If you want to take it as an 'unnecessary dig', though, then you might want to go back and look at one of your own posts:

Is that, too, an 'unnecessary dig' in your eyes? I wonder...

Other than the tale of Foulques and some other npc blurb, I've heard relatively few instances of Dusker racism, which is wierd cause that's kinda in the description and we literally are known for banditry. I mean I probably wouldn't be accousted by the local urchin(being armed and all) but having louts already in a fighting mood call me a bloody ditchdigging grey wouldn't be too out there.

There is that Lalafell pervert that's touching the butt of a miqo'te worker in Aleport.

It seems as if Hyur-Lalafell adoption is fairly common; see: Raubahn and Pippin and there's that Lalafell couple who arranged a wedding with their hyuran daughter (never stated to be adopted ... but quite obvious) with another Hyur in the Hildibrand quest.

The ARC guild leader is xenophobic towards everyone, although he seems to refer to archery as something only Wildwood elezen do well and should only be taught to other wildwood.

Not only do Gridanians hate Duskwights, they also don't like Seeker miqo'te

That and there's plenty interracial love in the Rising Stone: Ocher Boulder is sleeping with a Hyur and that Hyur seems to be interested in Hoary Boulder ... perhaps an upcoming 3 some. Her sister seems to be against it though.

Then there's the miqo'te male who (apperantly) has eyes for the hyur cnj ... who happens to be stalked by a female miqo'te hiding herself in the dividers

Luciane, the Guildleader, is not (she's trying to get everyone to work together), its Silvairre, one of the other members, who is sticking to traditional ways.

Its also Keepers the Gridanians hate, for good reason; many of the ones they meet are thieves and bandits and murderers (look at the gang in the South Shroud), and don't listen to/follow the Elementals (which could bring their wrath on the city).

Speaking of which, I wonder how they view the Seekers? Culturally, they're both hunters. Only difference is that Seekers aren't abundant in the Shroud

Probably no different. The Seekers may not be thieves like the Keepers in the Shroud can be, but they probably will push the Elementals' rules a bit, and the Gridanians really don't want the Elementals mad...

The other problem, they probably can't tell a Keeper from a Seeker, even standing next to each other...
