I think you need to have a rating of 41 to see the first challenge.

I completely disagree. A good challenge and something to strive for as a goal is a great motivator.I feel like I should be able to do this when it is unlocked. I shouldn't have to level up to be able to complete the first challenge, especially if they get more difficult as you get to the later challenges. If I need to have a stronger chocobo, maybe it shouldn't be available so early?

yeah, i have retired my R300 chocobo with full 4 stars on every stat... it's okay to have a new goal, but i am still pissed because of all the work i already have put into this chocobo... but it was impossible to win the last challenge race with the build i had... even with perfect weather the whole race, i was not getting hit from anything and i have used heavy on the top-chocobo... still -2 seconds...

What's your build? With a stamina and speed focused build I win like 90% of the time on the last challenge, and I don't even touch the other named NPCs as I'm ahead of them the whole time. Make sure to dodge the obstacles and stuff, and use some strategy when going for chests (like if you're ahead, let them have the briar so they fight each other).
Remember that you can also switch your learned ability to almost any other ability from the feed trader (almost since I think the last challenge unlocks some of the final ones), so maybe try some other abilities.

The 271 challenge is a bit ridiculous. 19/20 stars with max stat in speed, endurance and stamina, I've failed every time 20+ times. It's completely RNG dependent to give you a stamina tablet or a restore, and even then if you don't keep your finger on the accelerate button, you stand no chance at coming in first.
I understand difficulty, but my rating is 295 and this thing is just 271. I feel bad for people that wanted the barding. It's not gonna be simple at all. And I already had this bird!
I made a video of my challenge runs. You can find my chocobo's build at the time linked in this video:

And you can find my challenge 15 race here:

I've done the last challenge a few more times afterwards and I have a 95% ish win rate with this build.

i had 20/20 stars.... but to win this race you NEED max speed, cunning and enough stamina to sprint the whole race from start to finish. my chocobo only had 470 speed and 286 cunning. i put more into the stamina stats so i can use headstart. was an awesome build for R300, but way to slow for the last challange...The 271 challenge is a bit ridiculous. 19/20 stars with max stat in speed, endurance and stamina, I've failed every time 20+ times. that cunning probably killed you, and if your speed is higher than your endurance you end up running out of stamina faster
i had 470 Speed, 500 Acceleration, 500 Stamina, 500 Endurance, 286 Cunning, Headstart and Increased Stamina 3. that was kind of try and error with the 500 Acceleration + Headstart because i heared Acceleration will reduce the Stamina-Drain. But it was a fair-wather chocobo, so to have that acceleration was also nice to go back to top speed after a rain shower xD
i won almost all the time in R300 with this buid, bu no chance in the challange :x
