no clue to be honest, am not talking about myself, i don't have full lore set. i don't do savage raids. Not because I can't, but because the entry point is obscene, no one on my server communicates with each other, and duty finder is a joke even with normal HW primals. I'm willing to hang in there and explain, but by the time it's made apparent to me that I need to, half the team has bailed or a vote abandon has won..

edit: glad i'm not just delusional, Damona and CookieMonsta. I of course expect people to defend what they enjoy, after all, I really did intend to ask a question. But some constructive discussion on how maybe the game could break this mold a bit would be like, way more constructive than i originally intended this thread to be! would be neat ;p

Easily the truth, i've never seen an online community being so defensive about a game or blind to valid flaws.
If people are happy with the current system? I wont stop them, but just ignoring certain points which are hilariously lazy thought out?

There is a forum to discuss stuff. Why not use it? Here we are. ;p

When you think about it, this game isn't really an MMO. It's more like lobby based online rpg/arpgs likes monster hunter, pso, diablo, etc. You login, your open world is basically just a lobby, you get into instances, fight and go home except xiv has very poor gameplay customization systems. Instead you get dress ups and an adherence to a balance philosophy as if everyone is in competition with everyone despite everyone keeps saying they're not competing with anyone.

has long been said that the only people who post on forums are the ones who are ticked off about something, but um, thats probably more of a sign than it is a....cliche. It's one thing when its a restaurant review on yelp or something. But when it is an interactive forum to voice opinions about the game, you're going to have people doing as I did, asking for peoples opinions on *my* opinion. At least I'm not pullin a Trump and just posting 30 threads that say "BUILD A WALL AROUND FFXIV AND MAKE THEM BUILD IT WITH ADAMANTITE".

edit: 999 red gather tokens and 999,999 HQ adamantite nuggets

Almost all MMOs ('Theme park' styles in particular) are Skinner boxes.

What did you expect? If you wanted something that isn't a linear progression play eve online.

I for one am extremely jaded because everyone simply does not see the hamster wheel around them, the golden prison bars.
To cope, I play this game mostly to enjoy the company of close friends, everything else is unimportant.
It's probably because many people here have likely come from games where the hamster wheel is much, MUCH worse in comparison.

The game I came from, Dragon Nest, was notorious for making your gear worthless within MONTHS if you didn't have the absolute best raid gear. And by worthless I mean absolutely worthless. It had several tiers of gear at level cap, of which the highest tier was reserved for raiders. Thing is that gear was completely untradeable, and while the same may be said of FFXIV, gearing in that game also had a super RNG layer known as 'enhancement' that is far, FAR worse than materia overmelding. For one, enhancement basically made up like 50% of an item's stats, the game doesn't even TELL you the success rate, and it basically got to the point where even for fresh endgame gear, you were better off continuing using your old gear until you could scrounge up the funds to enhance. If you ever could.

Basically, imagine if overmelding additionally cost you 1 million gil per attempt, and the materia made up like 75% of the item's stats. That's basically enhancing endgame gear in DN in a nutshell. It was even worse for the highest tier raid gear, where the costs of enhancement are basically 10x that of the other tiers. Sure, the piece of gear would last you like a year if not longer, but due to the super RNG heavy nature, you could break your bank and get nothing out of it in return. Not only that, but the stat bloat became so insane that for level capped characters, jumping from the gearing tier below raid gear and using the top tier raid gear itself could pretty much boost your stats by as much as 50%. So imagine what kind of stats were needed for even casual content.

The hilarious part is that everyone with the top raid gear basically just sits around in towns all day complaining that the game is dead because there's nothing worth doing until the next raiding tier is out.

    I'm confused

You're saying having BiS gear for 6 months isn't long enough?

You want us to not have any gear upgrades for 9 months? 12 months? 2 years?

    I don't understand

Think I should mention this too actually.

Would you rather sit on the same gear forever? The sense of progression is lost at that point. You don't need top gear to do the basic thing, as the best gear goes to those who earn it (raiders) and you get the scraps from before. It shouldn't be that much of a bother.

It's an issue every mmo has to deal with. In my opinion Ffxiv is dealing with it poorly. The amount of redundant gear we have at the stage we are out is a little frightening. Of course the level raise had a natural backlash of this but even still... It's a little much.

What's more the main method of obtaining gear, off brand currency (tomes/seals) is become the overwhelming norm and it's irritating. It started in 2.0 and it's almost 3.3, with almost no change in this.

In addition we still have... No real world NMs, no challenges aside instances, raids have just become mechanic boss battles, and there's little competition against players and groups (pve) aside "world first".

So progression is that we can mindlessly throw ourselves at tomestones to invalidate raid gear at every ilvl raise?
Why even bother with savage then? For the lulz? For running the same raid areas again with some funky mechanics which feel like stepmania? I am not saying that these are impossible or too hard, but I dont see the point of throwing time at something which isnt more then "race the dps car to the finish line" and "jump the rope together".

The game still does a great job as a superhero simulator, with the rest though? Eh...
