name restrictions on some worlds but not others why

i tried to rename my character but not allowed on my server. i see other servers allow it. how is this fair

I'm just guessing here, but maybe that server already has someone who's called that way?

Only one person can have a specific name in each world.

There is at least 6 others with my exact name however they are in separate worlds.

Yes, if you want to rename to be a Stark, Targaryan or Lannister, it could be difficult ^^

From what I understand, the "banned names" list is constantly being updated, but it only affects new characters or if you try and rename to a banned name. Existing characters aren't forced to change their name unless it's an offensive name.

So if you're trying to make a popular name, this might be why some servers already have that name, but others can't get it now.
