I would normally post this in the bug report forum, but every time i make a report and even include pretty pictures they mark it as not enough info. So just throwing this out there.

If you are on a combat class, and you meld items (since you no longer have to be in the respective class to meld) and you complete the challenge log entry "Meld your heart" it will actually grant the XP points to your combat class you are currently on.

Just got 124k XP for my BLM while melding. Just an FYI

Make sure you're using their reporting form from the post at the top or they'll always mark it as "not enough info".

To answer your question yes you get the xp on the class you meld on.

OP's point is you shouldn't be able to get exp for a DoH achievement as a DoW/DoM and it seems like an oversight.

I'd tend to agree, lol. Getting exp on BLM for melding is silly.

It's how challenges have always worked, I don't see it as a bug. I've gotten battle xp for turning in crafting leves before.

I'm 100% sure you are incorrect. You can't turn in crafting leves as a different class than the one the leve is for. Otherwise, you could level any crafter or gatherer class off a single crafter's leves. Or, any battle class - crafter leves give absurd exp.

If so, they patched that out a looooong time ago. The way leves work is that you get the exp on the class that performs the leve. So with crafter, it's set to the crafting profession needed to craft stuff. For combat leves, you get the exp on the class you were on when you did the leve, even if you switch to another class. Powerlevelled my archer a bit with a babysitting WHM while doing my Atma book leves this way ^_~ (Accept leve, switch to archer, do leve and totally get carried through it, switch to relic class and equip relic weapon, finish leve, get the book leve ticked and archer exp. Profit.)

As a side note... When there are event Fates (the ones in towns), I'm fairly sure you can do them as a crafter or gatherer, since it's just "pick up stuff, hand 'em in" (or just switch to a crafter/gatherer once you've done your stuff). The fates count for the fate challenge log. If it dings when doing them, you get the exp on a crafter/gatherer.

Agreed, especially as you only get 10% of your current level so it's a nice boost, but it's nothing amazing.

That being said, I did recently use it to get the last bit of exp for my Monk as it hit 60 so that made me smile to get it in a way not involving combat:
