TBH, supporting pre-order culture is a destructive merchandise strategy in the first place and it should be devalued.

It wouldn't devalue it because it would be an option opened only for people above a certain amount of minion (150 ?), which mean not that much people. And this amount could change along with the increasement of the number of minion.

So SE adding incentives to get people to purchase something is "destructive", but people willing to shell out $50 for a minion isn't? The things are "worthless". It's just a collector's fallacy.

Read what I wrote very carefully. This isn't about the minions, this about people who paid anywhere from $40-$60 USD and received an item that could be redeemed in the game. I don't speak for SE, but it seems pretty silly to alienate those customers knowing they're the ones who will buy the next plushie, or drop another $50 for an OST.

S-E probably has enough marketing knowledge to realize messing with limited editions is a terrible move.

seasonal event items is one thing but specifically advertised to be limited editions like the ones with books, plushies, the cd's, even the pre-order would be very unwise to be messed with; there is just way too much of a support for such things.

can look at tons of sources to see how beloved owning something that is limited is.
like look at shopkins, little 3/4" injection molded garbage piece of plastic things and the limited edition ones sell for like $300-$3000+

I started in AUG 2015 and by the time I started most codes were gone, my only source was from Ebay, bought a CD that claims that it comes with the bahamut code but apparently it didn't.. Furthermore shipping from japan to singapore costs about 15-20$ more.

And I think both part can be defended.
Though, like every collection, you should be able to find the piece you miss, even if you spend year, even if it cost you a limb, there's usually always a way to get this missing piece at any cost. Here.... there isn't. You can't even buy it from pople who own it to keep the same amount in circulation, keeping its rarity but allowing people who really want it to get it from people who don't care about it because they just pre-ordered it for the early access or just because they had money at this time, or because they just wanted the OST, etc.

Depends you can be "Addicted" to digital goods. Although I will agree with Welsper below it's more of an obsession to complete a collection of digital goods at any cost.

The only reason I'm not interested in most mounts and minions is there permanent status on your character. If they could be traded then there could be a whole ingame market for these kind of things giving us more reason to interact with others. But that is against the code of "Squeeze more money out of em" which is part of the reason these items are permanently linked to your character among other reasons of simplification.

Minions and mounts associated with events will typically always be available on the Mog Station the following year for those that missed them. I'm fine with that.

What I cannot support, however, is making the limited edition minions (such as from the soundtracks, plushies or pre-orders) available again via the Mog Station. Many people spent upwards of £40/$50 to receive those minions as a limited time bonus. They were advertised as being limited edition. If SE were to make them available via some other means then their original advertising was false.

These minions are also a major drive getting people to buy additional merchandise, hence why SE attaches them to products. If they started selling them separately later on many people would stop buying merch which is entirely counter to the obvious marketing strategy SE is going for. Limited edition minions simply won't be available again because it would do far more harm to their future marketing than the good will they might generate from desperate players that unfortunately missed the boat.
