Welllll usually i can handle big pulls put theres this specific dungeon ( not never reap but the other one, starts with an A) where at this specific part if it is a big pull, as sch i just cant heal enough and everyone dies, Tank usually says " what happened ?" I say " to much aoe damage ". So yea they should ask if its ok for big pulls.

It's been awhile since I've done duties with strangers, but when I do, I usually type out, "Howdy! You should buckle up, you're all in for a ride" . I wouldn't call it asking so much as a heads up.

I always start my dungeons with: "Hello, would you like large pulls or smaller ones? I'm fine with both."

1/3 of the time no one says which they want.

1/3 of the time they say they don't care and I can pick, which I take to mean they don't wan to be blamed if we wipe.

And the last 1/3 say large pulls.

And 100% of the time no one seems happy with it no matter what I do.

Should tanks ask to do big pulls?

Hm as a tank I just assume everyone wants to do big pulls - I mean this is an MMORPG of middle 2010s, everyone rushes everything nowadays.

But for my case I don't really ask for big pulls though: I do them under the healer's request. If they don't, I usually do smaller pulls of 2 groups or 3 max, just nothing big. If they complain, they can always tell me to change my pace. And if they complain again, I let them enjoy the waiting time for another tank: my patience is very little to begin with.

So in my opinion, I would just say "yes" they should ask first because, while I dislike rushes, I absolutely dislikes needlessly deaths much more.

I think big pulls is the only option we're allowed these days, party composition notwithstanding.

Big pulls are kind of a no brainer at high levels in Ex Roulette and 60 Roulette. Ask a tank friend to help you practice doing them if you want commends at endgame (for safety, don't attempt before level 50 and i115+ though). Tanks and Healers have the easiest time respectively in dungeon content so if your dps have the AOE to rush the trash packs, do it. You're not entitled to special treatment or immunity from blame if things go wrong. I personally make it a point to enable tanks to do big pulls AND dps AND heal up the dps if they take the occassional aoe on large trash pulls.

I disagree. The easiest path is the one most taken. It's not tanks and healers who have the easiest time in dungeons.

I primarily WHM on my main and generally go into dungeons etc with a friend of mine who tanks. When we go into dungeons he decides to do big pulls or not depending on the dps actually and how geared they are. With my gear I can heal large pulls but if the dps aren't putting out enough and I find myself low on mana then well he changes his pulls accordingly for the next set. (I also tend to be in VoIP with him so I get a warning if hes going to, but when you play with someone long enough you get to know how they play and know whats coming and adjust accordingly.)

But at the same time if you go into a dungeon solo as a healer, the tank should check your gear and everyone else's also and ask if your alright with large pulls. But again if the dps aren't geared well and they don't output enough like people in Nevereap in gear below ilvl180 - the tank should do smaller pulls so you don't oom.

I just can't wrap my head around why the tank simply wouldn't ask at the start instead of making assumptions. The tank sets the pace of the group so s/he should be the one asking if the group is able or willing to keep up with what they want to do. No matter how eager a tank may be to push the envelope s/he can't exceed the pace of the group as a whole. There are numerous reasons why eyeballing equipment and making silent assumptions aren't very effective gauges of what the group can do. The best way to set the starting pace is to communicate at the start and then you can make adjustments as you go.

People like to speed run because they think their time is valuable, but you spend more time recovering from an unnecessary wipe (or getting engaged in an overly long fight that drains everyone's CDs and resources) than you'd have spent making sure everyone was on the same page from the start. It's counterproductive to make adjustments after you fail when a little communication would have prevented failure in the first place. It's just like when you have players new to a boss fight and someone decides to pull before you can properly explain the mechanics: sometimes it works out, but often times it leads to a lengthy wipe that wastes far more time than you'd have spent just glossing over the important bits of the encounter.

You're doing yourself and your group a disservice when you make assumptions about big pulls. It doesn't matter that most groups can do big pulls just fine without communication, the problem is when they don't and it winds up wasting all of that time you thought you were saving with your big pulls.

PS: I love speed runs, but I hate wiping because someone got overzealous and decided they didn't need to communicate their intentions properly or apparently don't know how to do it properly: gathering some mobs, stopping, and then suddenly tearing off again for another pack, leaving the healer behind (lump in constantly moving out of range or LoSing too). Pulling half the dungeon when paired with DPS who aren't exactly AoE powerhouses. Not knowing how to cycle CDs. Attempting to mass pull in their DPS stance. But I'm getting off topic so I digress.

I find it funny because 9/10 I ask them to make big pulls as the healer. Need that Bane. xD
