Making Gil without crafting/gathering: Is it Possible?

Some of my current goals include buying the 16 HQ items needed from the MB for the final step in the Anima Weapon quest and buying the i180 crafted gear to look like Fray via glamours, though this may not happen as everyone has moved on to the i220 stuff now.

By the time I finished HW, I had a few million gil from all the IV materias you get towards the end (I was able to sell one of the crafting ones for 250K!!) as I quickly learned the MB was a waste of time for upgrades, they were so overpriced and just saved all my gil and dungeon'd upgrades. However, I blew all that on HQ i220 accessories and now am looking at having to farm MILLIONS of gil with no quests. Later Dungeons give almost no gil and the gear you get in them is unsellable.

Am I missing an avenue of making money? I'm trying to level my Retainers, but it is taking a long time. I just feel like right now if you don't craft/gather, the game is stacked against you and am hopeful for ideas.

Doing roulette as the needed job gives bonus gil.
You can also complete as many of the weekly Challenge Logs as you can.
Another means would be killing monsters for monster drops that sell well (and/or sending a leveled retainer to get some too. They should bring a mix of HQ and NQ, and a decently geared retainer can bring 10 in 40 minutes).
Farming dungeons for minion drops that you can sell on the Market Board is also an option.
Spiritbonding can probably still be somewhat good, to an extent, but this is out of my field of expertise, so I can't guide you, there.

Those are the few that pop to my mind. I'm sure people will tell you more though!

Spiritbinding crafting items can be really good money. You could buy the items off the mb and go kill mobs, i usually go to wineport just cause i like it there. Alot of people say do unsync castrum and just kill first set of mobs exit and repeat.

Gathering and crafting is bulk of income.

However gathering faded pages are probably profitable on your server, which drop from trials / dungeons. That would be your best bet.

Sadly on the few servers I've been on, all the stuff you get from killing monsters are near worthless... The exception used to being diremite web but not anymore on my server. Reason their worthless is cause everyone else has them too from killing and leveling. There's excess in every server I've seen.

Truthfully, say you found the golden goose of monster farming items, it'd probably take longer making money farming that then just leveling say miner. I sucked it up and leveled it and I make insane money. I make even more money with just my 50 armorer. Housing items are usually cheap to make and make insane money.

I'd go miner. It's almost fun and some ores make decent money depending on server.

Sorry for double post but editing doesn't work on my phone. Keep in mind I said 50 armorer. That's right, probably one of the least profitable crafters at a level that's meh. Even that will nab you money if you craft the right things. I don't have cross class skills or even decent gear.

Get your 2.0 Beast Tribes up and you can get 12 tier IV materia per day. I can't speak for Ultros but on Greg the prices have dropped quite a bit since they were originally added (about 50% down from a few weeks ago), but its still better then nothing. If I was still selling right now instead of saving for melds/possibly useful for 3.3 relic I'd probably have over 7 mil now. For refrence aboute a month ago I was under 2 mil, now I'm at 6 mil. You can also sell the Tier V materias that you can get from the Void Ark drop.

Its not nearly as fast as a good crafter/gatherer can make, but if you aren't going to be doing those anytime soon its my suggestion. If you do decide on gathering I also vouch for mining. Relaxing in my opinion.

The answer to this is: Certainly, but you'll certainly make far less unless you have music and minion drop luck the likes of which the world has never seen.

Go Grab-tastic on every piece of gear from every dungeon you run, need / greed the lot of it. Trade it in for GC seals and use them to obtain cordials, coke, animal fat, etc, whatever sells well on the market.
Hard Mode primals may potentially be a benefit for items from Ifrit, Garuda, Titan and Leviathan since they are needed to craft the minions.
Rank 3 ARR beast tribe quests give 1 T4 materia each. (Kobold, Sahagin, Sylph and Amal'jaa)

Seems people want Paladin, Darkadin and Palaxedin for tanks these days :/

I didn't know that about the original Beast Tribes, and here I am focusing on the two new ones in HW (for unidentified items). I thought the music crafting components were un-tradeable? I swear I tried selling one before and it wouldn't go on the market.

I run a lot of dungeons, so need/greeding isntead of passing might be a way to go. I am always at or near the GC cap and had not investigated if any of those items were worth good gil.

    Thanks guys!

I know sucking up and just gathering/crafting is sound advice but I just can't do it, I find it incredibly unfun. I want to attack monsters and use my abilities and gain gil through combat.

for relic items, the rank 3 ARR beast tribes also give tokens towards them, and it's typically faster as well since they only offer one item each rather than all 4 so it takes 13 of the ARR tokens for an unidentified item rather than the 18 from the Vanu / Gnath.
