I've missed out on stuff in game previously due to IRL stuff I was doing (Anime Weekend Atlanta, going out of the state with no way to play), I didn't complain like a child when I didn't max out that week.

Try planning to do stuff sooner rather than later. If you don't like it, stop giving them your money every month.

You cant just be handed tomes because you didnt have the time to do them.
You have to put in the work to get them. Planning to do it extremely last second is not a good idea in the first place, especially since it it when they have the maintenances

The only possible explanation is that SE is out to piss you off this week. I bet they knew you were going to be out of town and scheduled this particular maintenance a whole 3 hours earlier than normal just to prevent you from capping your lore tomes! Man, I just can't believe how evil and petty they are sometimes!
