    Animation lock used as a factor in gameplay

    Hi just been fighting ifrit and just thought id voice my oppinion on one of the gameplay dynamics

    It seems critical to *not* be in "animation lock" when ifrit uses a few of his abilities, most notably eruption and hellfire

    i dont agree with the fact that this kind of dynamic can effect this kind of thing, the timing are tight enough that if i press for example sentinal in time it should be good enough... regardless of whether i am in animation lock and my lancer is busy jumping back and forth for 5 seconds after a weapon skill.

    i know some of you are going to say "be carefull when you use actions"

    what i am saying is that this kind of dynamic is wrong in *principle*

    on a related note i have found that i have to keep pressing the same button untill an action comes out since they got rid of action queing

    it feels like im fighting with my keybaord is the way i would describe the gameplay in this game.

    i feel if they made some actions like self buffs- sentinal, raging strike etc, etc procable at ANY time the gameplay would be alot more enjoyable.

    make it so when i press something it should be good enough for the game that i pressed it instead of stupid dynamics like animation lock being a factor..

    also sometimes i get hit with eruption even when on my screen i am not in range... i have <run away> and i still got hit. i can appreciate this is a problem with latency or the workings of the server but maybe se should try to design things around this instead of playing into it if they know its a problem.

    I think most people would agree that its no good in a fast pasted fight, there is no doubt in my mind that SE will eventually have to sort this problem out, either with 2.0/new servers or before.

    People aren't going to put up with a system that punishes you because of bad design, we had enough of that in FF11.

    • They said we were geting a combat revamp, they never said it was going to be good, lol.
    • It's a different kind of game.
    • Not all games need to be like TERA with fast moves. Some people like a slower, more tactical game.
    • Some games have you fight monsters, in FFXIV the real boss monster is your UI and server lag.

    Just thought i'd consolidate into one post all the stupid replies/excuses which will undoubtedly follow at some point in this thread.

    It's being addressed. Read the coming changes. It doesn't say it explicitly for animation lock, but it's practically implied.

    Yoshi also responded specifically in a recent interview that animation lock is one of the many issues that will be corrected with the 2.0 server changes.
