The client in German also contains -a, -ga etc.

I'd rather more traits too, especially as a controller user. My crossbars are filled. I don't need anything else.

Honestly I'd rather they take the older abilities (pre 3.0) and just redo the animations for them and spruce them up a bit. Make them flashier. The abilities of the 3.0 classes and NIN look so much better then the vanilla classes. Look at Fast Blade and Savage blade. They are so incredibly boring. Liven them up a bit.

Another suggestion I've seen is to give some abilities a second purpose/action. So just take existing things and work with those and throw some new traits on top of it.

Only if they are skills that replace other skills depending on what stance the player is in, or when certain conditions are met like collecting a certain amount of stacks or through skills or buffs (ex: imagine that after a player uses shadowbind: the effect of shadowbind is added to one of the Brd's AOEs). Or, just replace them entirely, but that would be the same as meeting certain conditions.

Which I think had the opposite effect, actually. Anyone who has played a FF title (and that's mostly everyone) before understood that different spells might have different names. What we *didn't* understand was when different spells had different tiers of the same name. It still makes no sense to me why fire II isn't fira\aga and sits smack in the middle of two single-target spells.

We definitely need new traits. Abilities could use a touch up but only as a new "tier" to replace an old move.
My PLD/WAR have 27 abilities + the 5 cross class making that 32 moves. People using controllers can fit 16 moves per set meaning 2 full bars are completely full with a different ability. I DO NOT need a 3rd bar that I constantly have to flip between. I've already worn out one controllers right bumper from this and I don't want to have to keep replacing them!
If SE wants to even make it easy they can give a 2nd tier to traits that don't have one currently or give a trait to the HW actions.

Fully support the new traits. They could take this as an opportunity to not only give us traits at 60, or 60-70 if they boost up our level, but quests that give traits starting at earlier levels to fix / enhance some of the issues that may still be around for jobs at lower levels. I have enough to manage with my DoTs.

months old post I know but I think it was more space limitations with the NES and SNES since they were converting kanji to english so they couldn't fit in the limited text space.
Which is why I can't get behind why they did it in FFXIV since limitations don't exist and I'm sure FF fans know their lingo. Even a kids game like Kingdom Hearts used the traditional FF naming conventions.

new trait "memory" - does not forget skills you had when being level synced.

More seriously id take traits over skills, would like 1 new skill though

They should have done this to at least the healer's damaging spells. While Ruin and Ruin II are fine, AST's Malefic and CNJ/WHM's Stone and Stone II spells become obsolete when you get their upgraded versions and aren't level synched... Then there is AST's Stella spell, which doesn't see the light of day outside of PvP.

As I understand the reason they are not looking to add traits is basically SCH/SMN.
They thought it'd be good to have 1 class that branches into a DPS and Healer, but as they grow in level and become more specialized, the Devs can no longer add anything "common" to the classes as it simply doesnt mesh.
At least that is the argument that I keep hearing... I dont think it'd be so difficult to add a trait that has multiple effects for job abilities, like a trait that gives an added effect to Adlo AND Ruin 3 for instance, since they are effectively mutually exclusive.

I for one would prefer traits over new abilities.
But if we have to have new abilities, then have them be "traited up" replacements for old ones.
For example a new ability could replace a combo starter (such as Fast Blade), but have an extra effect, like applies a bleed, reapplies a dot, performs a 50% potency Flash, something that suits the class and ability.
To reduce Bloat, maybe have something that combines combo chains together.
Using PLD as an example, make a skill that combines RoH and Goring Blade. If used after Savage Blade, it is RoH with more damage/enmity mod. If used after Riot Blade it is Goring but with a small aoe equal to 1 or 2 dot ticks of Goring's dot.

And we need something special for lvl 70. Maybe a trait (if we do traits somehow) that buffs a signature long CD ability. Or an ability which replaces/supplements a key buff.
For instance "extended HG" - now applied a 50% damage reduction to the party within 30m.
"Vengeful Holmgang" - Keeps track of damage dealt past 1 hp. On expiration restores health equal to 50% of stored damage, and inflicts 100% of stored damage as a 5y aoe. Increases CD to 5 minutes.
"Radiant Benediction" - Restores full health to party and removes all cleansable debuffs, but reduces caster's MP to 25%. Basically healer LB3 sans rez and with a sizeable cost if used willy-nilly.
    Things like that.

For the supplemental ability, say BLM, SMN, and DRG. All have a buff that unlocks new abilities and a fundamentally new rotation, but the buff itself has a 60s recast. So if mechanics decide to screw you, well... grats, you are screwed!
So lets address that by adding something on a 2 minute timer that gives you a chance to "unscrew" yourself. For instance a buff that mimics the effects of Enochian/BotD/DWT, but for X abilities, all while STOPPING the current effect from counting down.
So say the boss just became untargettable, or the mob you tried to cast on died and you have 2 sec left (not enough to get the cast off)... Then use this "buffer buff" to stop your buff timer, collect yourself, wait out the boss mechanics, and resume what you were doing.

A nice QoL change for the lvl 60 rotations.
