Not sure why this is becoming more common but it can't be helped. Only way to avoid this is to run DF roulettes in Full Party out of FC/LS/Friendslist.
This has been my mentality as of late. I don't even want to say Hello anymore, just so I don't get attention on me.

In one run, I used Kassatsu + Doton on two mobs in Lost City Amdapor Hard, and the DRG laughed at me, telling me to stop. In another run as BRD, true, my damage was below THEIR expectations, but I was never far behind the BLM. I kept up DoTs, Foes, and even kept the WAR from being Pacified. When I ended up with about 8 back-to-back Resets, I spammed Rain of Death. Apparently, they found that to be a bad idea (not sure why).

So, yeah, now... I don't say hello, I don't even offer advice to a first-timer. I remain quiet, send my Comm, Loot the gear, exit.

Grinding is a huge reason people get so numb with player interaction over time.
As you can level everything on one single character, you get to do a lot of that eventually. Same 15-60s dungeons, hundreds of times.

In the end, you try to do them as efficient as possible. Dungeon entered, head lowered, shoulders relaxed, autopilot on, and hoping you get them done around the magical 20 minutes.

I don't talk much in dungeons because I know it's just a recipe for disappointment.

I'll talk, I'll hit it off with someone really nicely, then at the end of the dungeon we have to say goodbye and probably never see each other again.

If I don't talk, I don't have to worry about this.

We really need cross server capabilities.

To me, the biggest problem in this story is that the tank feels if he doesn't pull more than he's comfortable pulling he will get kicked out of the group.

I mean seriously, is that what it's come to?

At the same time there's another thread on the forum asking why people hate tanking.

Gee. I have this odd feeling there's a connection between these two things, but I just can't put my finger on what it is ...

No one has stated that their feelings aren't important. What has been stated repeatedly is that they need to be prepared against the inevitable encounter with someone who isn't a nice person (aka grow thicker skin). There's always going to be jerks out there, some crueler than others, and no amount of politeness or reasonable arguments is going to change that behavior if the jerks in question have no desire to change it to begin with. Most jerks ARE aware that their behavior isn't wanted, which encourages a few of them.

Of course, I don't expect a generation that wants to be shielded from anything that causes them any amount of emotional or mental stress to understand this.

I think what OP is asking is not about why people like that exist, but how they become one like that. Where it all started.. Actually, It's all about the imagine, which people created themselves and that spreads like a virus. People tent to be more respectful when they are new, since they were learning, and connection is what made (make) good players the best. We all know it. But, once people get used to a game and start to develop their own playstyle, they become more aggressive... and question; why can't you do this or that, it's obvious!!. Some people get even deeper with elitist mentality. It's all natural. Only intelligent players treat others nicely, because they value people.

I've been really lucky since I came back - everyone has been super nice and I had my very first runs on every HW instance. People explained things and the one time we wiped a few times (Vault end mob) everyone stayed positive.

I try to be nice to people on my end though so maybe you get what you put out. It's sad to see people deciding not to talk or bring friendliness to their groups because I've run into nothing but nice people this month. (Though some have been quiet).

Respectfully, people should check their ability potency before deciding that they shouldn't AOE. Too many DPS fall into this trap.
