We just need safety warnings for people who are new to the internet. Mentally prepare them for everything they could possible come in contact with. If you want to make use of the internet you will need to grow a thicker skin instead of taking everything seriously and personally. People that are easily offended or emotionally fragile really have no business on the internet.

Or people could jsut become nicer. Everyone expects nice people to develop thicker skin. They want kind people to become callous and cold to the world. We need to stop enabling people's bad behavior. We all need thinner skin. We need more compassion for one another. We need to consider other people's feelings. We need a world where people aren't awful for the sake of being awful. Whether or not you believe a world like that can exist, it's something we need to encourage; not discourage.

When we tell people to develop a thicker skin, what we're really doing is excusing people's bad behavior. That's what we need to stop. We need to stop telling good people their feelings aren't important and start telling jerks their behavior isn't wanted.
